Do you need the actual effect "Synonymental" to perform it the way Richard does, or can you learn it (and make one) from watching the DVD's?

Richard,
OT: I noticed you were wearing an earring in this series. Is this something new or have you always worn it? Candini

Candini,
You are the first person to mention it! The fact is, a number of years ago, when I turned 50, I decided to do what I had been thinking of for many years, to get my ear pierced! (Mid-life crisis and all that!) First of all, regardless of what anyone says - IT HURT! But it was fun and what's great about a pierced ear is you can wear an earing if you feel in the mood and not if you don't. (Unlike a tatoo!) I, of course, never wear one when doing my shows (which are mostly corporate), but at home, in good ole Kentucky, I can do whatever I want when the mood hits me. I just thought it would be fun to do it at the L&L shootings. It has been interesting to note the reactions of people about that. Most women think that it is no big deal and think it is kinda cute. My own wife, Lisa, loves when I wear one. It is the men who sometimes object. But the fact is, I could care less. Richard |

I hadn't given it much thought, I had assumed you had it from your days when you were in a band, silly me, totally wrong.
Here a lot of us are of the opinion that once you reach a certain age you can wear absolutely anything and get away with it, you could wear a tea cosy or die your hair blue and nobody minds. My own father had a more expensive gift to himself, a very large vintage motor bike!!! H.W

Oh now, what "that" could possibly be ? Another "Osterlind Mystery"? How about, hmmm..."An American Chopper" ? I'm trying to imagine a theme bike, built by those guys for you ! (I know H.W.'s dad a little, and the kind of "vintage motorcycle" he would ride). So,"A Mind Mystery Motorcycle" revealed on the next release by Richard. That, would complete the picture alright... Riding on a Hot Rod Chopper with the earing, very cool !

LOL, I love it:) You are right about men objecting. I got mine pierced long ago and seldom wear one either. I bought a pyramid one the other day and put it on for an adult birthday party mentalism show and I think I will start adding it for certain venues now. When getting paid, one has to pick the right time and place of course. Jury still out on my children gigs (perhaps a new thread in little darlings:::)

I am planning on using Mental Numbers (created by Vincent Dalban) and taught by Richard Osterlind in ETMMM Vol. 2. I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out this effect. The quality of the video is good but not the fine print, I guess. I was't able to make up the numbers on the video. I know Richard uses 50 index cards and he said by looking at one card, one can know the 6 digits number in the next card. How? I'm also confuse as to how to stack the cards.
Any mentalist out there that does this effect please help! Thanks! Posted: Mar 27, 2006 2:22pm Does the Mental Numbers utilize the Si Stebbins system? I can get the Si Stebbins Unpluged to learn this system but I need to know if this is the system Richard Osterlind uses. Thanks.

However, if you've got the DVD, go to the explaination side of it. Richard Osterlind's instructions on the set up and the "How-to-do-it" has been given the 2009 certification of being "Reuben Friendly", in that if a dyscalculia affected guy can do this one with a minimum of effort, then it must be easy, in the technical sense, to do. The only thing that I've done is to reverse the stack, for some reason I'm able to do it with a lost less hassle this way. Don't ask me why, but it works. Anyway, I digress. Get the book, look at the explainations, number the cards as instructed, and have fun. This effect works well if used in connection with other number themed effects, e.g., Tong's telephone book test for example. Hope this helps. |

Seriously. .. this series is still going to be talked about 50 years from now. (in whatever format we do that in, or watch things.... DVDs will be gone completely and the "INTERNET" as we know it won't be as we know it now, but ETMMM will be around somehow)
