Does anybody make a monkey fist knot chop cup ball? If anyone has leather knot expertise, how large can you make a monkey fist knot ball? Can it be made about 1 1/4, such as for a two cup routine ala Tommy Wonder? Also-does anyone have any Mike Roger's chop cup baseballs? Thanks.

Yes, I make monkey fist chop cup balls.
They are not 1 1/4 inch however. They are about 1 inch. Could be more, I suppose. I'm experimenting to see if I like them for my own products. There are pictures on my website.

You have to experiment, but yes you can make monkey fists of various sizes. You may need to find the right size ball for the core and wrap the leather more than the typical three times each way, but it is doable. The diameter of the cord/leather will also determine the diameter of the finished ball.
I know a guy locally who made some very nice ones when we had this duscussion before. If you're out there John, put in your 2 cents.

I saw some monkey fist balls today that were 4 inches in diameter. They were sold as dog toys at a pet shop.

Those were sprayed, and grew to Gorrilla Fists.

Hi,
Yes, I've made several different sizes of leather Monkey Fist balls. As Jeff pointed out, it just depends on the size of the core you use. I also have made chopped Monkey Fist leather balls that work well for my purposes, but there is definitely a knack to get the right amount of stickiness for your particular cup. You may need to pick a smaller core and then do a double wrap to decrease the stickiness, or a larger core and a single wrap. Good luck! tr |
