I saw a thread retracting device on the internet, and I knew some float tricks, so I got it... but it holds a diffrent kind of thread than the kind I would use for the float tricks I know...
-Does anyone know if this is supposed to be a different kind of thread? The kind that came with the retractor is heavier and more visible than the kind I can use for the float trick. -Can anyone offer any suggestions for how to use the device? I'm in a tiny village in rural Alaska teaching, so there is no way to meet up with other magicians... Everyone here is totally blown away by magic... even the corny things. Thanks!! |

I would ask your questions of the place you bought it. You aren't supplying enough info for proper responses, here.

Alright, thanks blindbo.
Any suggestions for a magic shop that is especially good with customer service long distance or via internet? I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for here, but I have a few pretty straight forward questions (and a paypal account), and I'd like to get some expert advice. |

Why don't you tell us what the retractor looks like and what type of thread is on it. Or better yet, tell us the name of the retractor.
The fact that you even call it a "RETRACTOR" suggests that it is a John Kennedy product. If it is not the type of thread you expected, it sounds like the Hummingbird. If that is the case, it is designed more for stage effects (ie. flying a silk across the room) rather than standard thread effects. Again, however, I'm just guessing at this point.

Well, I got it from thetrickery.com and they call it an itr. It's about 4 inches long, with small safty pins on the ends and a spool in the center with lots of IT aroind it. When I pull it out, it only extends to about the span of my arms before I'm worried it will break if I extend any further.
I'm pretty good with super fine it by itself. I just can't figure this thing out... how do I get it to keep from retracting while in use? Is there some way to lodge the thread somewhere on the itr so it stays put untill I need it to retract? I'm really just trying to decide if it is worth it to spend cash on the DVD. I'd like to have an idea of what can I can do with it that I can't do with IT by itself. I'd really appreciate any thing anyone can give me... |

This sounds like an ITR which was invented by James George I believe, please correct me if I'm wrong.
It builds up tension by elasting bands that are being twisted around as you extend the thread. The larger real you have the more thread you can take of before the tension builds to much for the thread to handle, Michael Ammar has a series of dvd sets about thread magic which is pretty good and it gives you different uses of the normal it and the itr. also james george explaines a couple of effects. and about things you can do with it it is basically a very handy method of having your thread with you ready to go, you can extend it and attach it to something use, and then just by letting go ending clean as a rabbit. I hope this helps Pepijn |
