After reading some of the other posts I realize that the answer to my question might depend on the competition being entered... but I would like to know if there is a time minimum and maximum for a manipulative/stage routine? For example, I believe I read that for FISM one's act must be at least five minutes long...

I would say the typical contest act should be about 10 minutes long ... give or take a minute or two. Some contests will penalize you for going too long. There is no time penalty for the teen stage or close- up contest at the World Magic Seminar but I would not recommend going over 12 minutes. However, you should be sure to read the rules for whatever contest you plan to enter.

Typical contests suggest an act of no longer then 10 minutes. That is why I teach my students to strive for an 8 min act. This gies you perfect tiome incase you are running over etc.

Kyle is right. I won Abbott's adult contest back in 1998 and my routine was 7.5 minutes long. Which was just the right amount of time.
