Really it was only publicized regionally as it was to promote a regional show. And outside of those that are clients or in the fan group I don't tend to really bring the stuff up much. When I do I tend to feel as though I'm bragging or something and that's not how I like to come off.
Anyway, the always great Sideshow Central came out and did a review of the performance and they knew about the records as well (which were done about a week and a half prior). If you'd like you can check out the review at http://www.knddesign.com/sc/reviewmtk.html Otherwise just google me and some things will pop up on it here and there. You’ll just have to be patient and search through it a bit. To be frank we didn't have a great turn out for the Record Attempts (it was okay, but not great) as we did them outside and it was actually raining and was also very cold for that time of year. And all of the media that was there was print and no camera crews (except NTV Productions who was working for me in order to document it on the behalf of Guinness). Most of the stories that were written up were to publicize the show and only briefly mentioned the escapes as something of a side note. We got them there with the promise of a record break. And while we gave them that it was really more to chat them up about the show afterwards in order to get some free ad-space. So I was happy about that because while I enjoy breaking records, on that day it was more about selling tickets (which it certainly succeeded in doing!). I've gotten emails from a bunch of you about my shows, so for those of you that'd be interested in joining the email list then just send your full name and email address to join@MattTheKnife.com and someone here will be happy to add ya! It's a once a month thing and it's only text. So you won't have to worry about it filling up your inbox. We travel a lot and the performances are all over the place, so wherever you are we'll get around your place sometime. Anyway, feel free to sign up! I've also been asked in some emails from some of you for more details about the escape but it's late so I'll be sure to do so at some point tomorrow once I have a free minute. |

Hey there David,
Thanks for the congrats! Sure, I don't mind sharing some more details at all. I've already explained most of the event’s happenings. The cuffs, as Guinness demands, must be supplied by the police department that is taking part in the event. So I didn't actually know what I'd be getting out of until I arrived. It was done in accordance with the Johnston Police Department and as I recall they were Peerless Model 700 in a Nickel Finish. Although Stuart’s record has still not been exchanged for mine on the Guinness site as of yet, yes- Guinness has officially endorsed the claim as of about a week ago (or at least that's when I got word from them). Oh, now and again fans will send along links that they find info about me on it. And by coincidence another listing was just sent to me last evening and it happens to mention the record attempts. I'd send more but I don't keep them. Typically I give them a once over and move along. http://riroads.com/news/20041106sideshow.htm |

Hi Matt
Well done again. In the UK we are stuck with using the rigid Hiatts speedcuffs, rather than the chain cuffs the US police can supply, so the record is a little harder over here, still, at least we both have it easier than someone in say, China! For now I will resubmit my current claim as the European record and wait until April before attempting to retake the world record, that way I will have another round of publicity from the attempt, plus I already have an event I can make the attempt at anyway, so there is very little for me to arrange on that front. Are you taking part in the W.E.A.R event? Cheers David Straitjacket

Hey David,
Well I'm glad that it works out well for everyone then! Yeah, I feel that the Rigid Cuffs have both an advantage and a disadvantage when compared to the chain cuffs. So in the end they equal out in my opinion (no really worse or better, just different). Quite right about the Asian Cuffs though! While I rather like the Kyoung Chang cuffs and I REALLY like the Yuil cuffs (both from Korea) I'm not much of a fan of the H&R Super style double locking handcuffs that are manufactured for the Chinese government (they're easy to pick... but they're cumbersome). Anyway, good luck on the next attempt and I hope that you keep us all up to date on that end of things! And yes, I just sent Clyde an email this morning about W.E.A.R saying that I was in. It sounds like it's turning in to quite an event! Cheers, -Matt (TK) |

That's not even a person a day (That's a little more than half a person a day?). If we keep this constant rate going (56 days, around 36 people), knowing how many months we have until the actual event....I'm sure we will get over a hundred (still with some extra time before the relay). Now, the thing is... 1.) Can we keep this days/people thing going? and 2.) We have to do some serious work to find the rest of the Escape Artists around the world. Just some thoughts.... Daniel |
