A few weeks ago I purchased the new XM2Go radio and it seems that I find myself more and more pleased with my purchase with each passing day.
I was very critical of XM radio (Sirius as well) because of the price of the unit and the fact that it costs $10.00 a month (a little cheaper by the year). Why pay for something that I get for free? Listening to a few commercials is not too steep a price to pay for free radio. Boy was I wrong. The ONLY reason I decided to pay the bucks and get XM was because of one channel (164) which is "Old Time Radio" shows. I felt that the price was justified for me to make the plunge. What I didn't figure on was some of the other fantastic channels available, such as a number of "Talk" shows and "Educational" shows such as "The Discovery Channel". We have a local station in Seattle that plays "Golden Oldies" but the playlist they have is so limited that it doesn't take very long and you start hearing the same old stuff again. Channel 5 on XM plays old stuff that I have not heard anywhere in 40 years and I am constantly hearing things that I forgot ever existed or things I don't think I ever heard before. I LOVE my XM radio XM started in 2001 so it is not exactly new but I hope it catches on big time because I sure would hate to see it go away due to lack of popularity. My radio can store five hours worth of listening and now my library of "Old Time Radio" shows is growing faster than ever as I convert the shows to MP3 then burn them to a CD. Long Live XM Radio! I've been intrugued by XM and now after reading this post I just may have to subscribe. I also love old time radio shows. There is one station that has an hour a night of old time radio but with the commercials you get about 40 minutes of show. As far as the "classic rock" its just the same way here as in Seattle, the same songs over and over (its probably the same exact playlist in Milw as Seattle) Everything I hear about XM is good, I've never heard anyone who had it say they didn't like it or made a mistake getting it.

Howdy Vandy: I would love to hear from a disappointed XM user (if there is one).
One word about "commercial free". Not exactly true it depends on what you call "commercial". Between songs and once in the middle of a half hour "Old Time Radio" show (which is usually about 24 minutes total length) there are little ads or comments about XM radio and the wonderful programming it provides. out of the 130+ channels there are about 60+ that are "commercial" free, the other's do have commercials. With that said, I still stand by my statements above and I do love my XM radio. One note though, I suggest paying the extra cash ($350.00 us at the moment) and get the portable XM2go radio (it is a kit for the car, in home and walking about). Right now everyone can listen for a month for free on their home computer, so anyone not sure if XM is for them I suggest going to the XM website and get the free service while it lasts, I almost guarantee that most will be impressed enough to cough up the bucks to become an XM subscriber. XM radio is amazing. It came with my new car and every day I love it more and more. It was the best option that can come with a car....If you don't have I think you should look into getting it. You won't regret the purchase.

Dylan . . . talking! What's next? Harpo Speaks? (for those under 50: amend that last to Teller Speaks?)

Direct TV just switched to this...Do not like the bubble-gum dj's talking through the beginning of songs on some stations....

Wow! It's been a year since I purchased my XM radio and I still feel as pleased today as I did on December 15, 2004 when I made the plunge. Next month I will be getting a second XM radio, this time installed in my van.
The monthly price is $12.00 a month (price went up not long after my purchase) and an extra $6.00 a month for the second radio (Family plan). In my first post I stated that my XM radio can record 5 hours of programing. 5 hours is for music in stereo but I can record up to 17 hours of my favorite talk shows. XM Rocks Iven
