Hello everyone,
My name is Buddy Derrick. I live in College Station Texas. I just turned 22 and am married with a two year old son. I have been interested in magic every since I was a little kid. Until a little over a year ago, it was just an interest. Now, it is a full blown obsession. I have been reading posts and have been a member of The Café for a while now but this is my first official post. I just wanted to formally introduce myself and let my presence here be known. My preference in magic is close-up. I love coin work, and also cards, but if it is good magic, I like just about any other form it comes in. I have been trying for the last year to get a good base of videos and books to learn from. I don't know anyone else who is interested in magic any further than seeing a couple of tricks so this is about my only contact with the Magic Community. One thing I am very excited about is the lecture I will be going to on Tuesday Jan. 11th. It will be my first and I must say I am thrilled that it will be with such a well respected magician as Michael Close is. If anyone from the board that may be reading this is going, I would love to hear from you. Well, I guess I will not take anymore of your time. I also want to thank Mr. Steve Brooks for starting this wonderful forum. It gives people like me an oppertunity that I may never would have had otherwise. Thanks, -Buddy |

Hi Buddy,
I just joined this forum a few minutes ago, and I was thinking of introducing myself to everyone. But first I wanted to read others' posts. I enjoy magic too. I'm not a magician. However, I've always loved magic, just like you. But, it was more a passing interest. I bought books and such and was even given a magic set when I was younger. But, I never really got too deeply involved. About 5 years or so ago, I had some time on my hands. I decided to buy some card videos. I have an interest in card manipulation and card sleights. My first complete set of videos was Alan Ackerman's set. I also have Martin Nash's set. I have some old Ed Marlo tapes that are terrible quality and not very intstructive but fun to watch. I have Jeff McBride's card manipulation videos too. I still watch them and practice off an on. I've developed quite a few good techniques, if I do say so myself! Tell you what, if you'd like to borrow a tape or two, I'd be glad to lend you 1. When you finish with it, return it to me, and I'll send another. I've recently started playing around with thimbles and billiard balls. I enjoy tricks that require practice to be able to do. And, I prefer not to rely on any gimmicks or gaffs to do the trick. I prefer practice and skill. Drop me an email if you'd like to borrow a tape. glenn.mccune@tufts.edu |

Hi Buddy, and welcome to the Café. This is a great place to learn magic of all forms and styles. I've been a member of the Society of American Magicians for 36 years. I'm sure there must be some local assemblies you could join. Be sure to go to their web site. It will list the local assemblies locations and how to contact them.
Glad to have you on board.
