Hi everyone
Does anyone know if there are any building plans for the water torture cell available? There are a few larger shows this year that I think I could sell this escape too, and hopefully get the building costs back in the process. Cheers David Straitjacket

Hi David,
As one who has toured with large water escapes (not the WT cell) I can say that there are probably a lot more interesting and terrifying escapes that can be toured with than a big, cumbersom, water tank. If I were you, I would look into the water cell made by Richard Sherry of Calgary. Richard's tank is small and one must crouch to get into it. I personally think this is better psychologically because it gives the impression of a claustrophobic nightmare or "death trap" to the audience. Besides, everyone has already seen the WTC. If not on T.V. then in the movies. Simply put, it is OLD. I feel it is high time for something new. Richard Sherry has just that. Steve Santini |

Magic Magazine has a cover story of the refurbishing of the original Houdini USD tank. Seems that it had water damage after years on display at the Niagra Falls Houdini Museum, and needed repair (and just a year or 2 later, it was lost in the museum fire. Thank God for that article & pics!!). The article had a **fantastic** shot of the tank all taken apart into smaller pieces prior to the restoration. Find that back issue and all your questions will be answered. Mine were.

For once I agree with Santini !!! The USDWTC is old...the smaller, crouched position tank is better and easier to carry.

WOW! I have just had my 17th heart attack! (in a row!!!)
Seek out Richard Sherry of Calgary, Alberta. He offers many unique and original alternatives for the modern performing escapist. Steve Santini |

To answer the question that was put forward....
I have not ever seen actual plans for a water torture cell. Richard Sherry mentioned earlier is working on one. Owens can still build one as far as I know. We are also in the process of having ours built. We have had one other tank in our possession and have been quite involved with the building of ours. If there is anything I can help you with, feel free to ask. The best way is thru email or even PM here would be fine. Hope that helps. Kevin

The Brill plans pop up on Ebay from time to time.
Burling Hull had construction tips in, "Gold Medal Showmanship." I wrote an article on the subject in an issue of "Escapism" in the 1980s ("Glass Tanks Without Tears"). Steve

Would you share with us the construction tips you wrote about in Escapism? Thanks, Kevin

Burling Hull put them out MANY years ago.
Sammy Smith reissued them years ago. Douglas Wayne Illusions put out a set a few years back. I would think the latter should be easy to find. As to it being "old", well so are Escapes in General. IF, and that is a qualified IF, you have the shows and understand the effort, then go for it. NOTHING grabs laymen like the UDC. After all they think Houdini died in it. I just never found the money paid equal to the effort involved. That may not be true for you, so use your intellengence guided by your experience. Mark Tripp |

I think the Cannons are selling the compilation of "The Escapist Newsletter."
"Escapism" was an older publication. Steve

The publisher, Joe Tanner, used to sell a compilation of each issue. Maybe he still does.

Joe Tanner is at JNPTAN@aol.com and I purcahsed many back issues of Escapism from him last year but he's gradually liquidating his stock so if you want these remaining issues I wouldn't recommend dragging your feet on it. There's no telling how much longer they will be available.
