Hi everyone--
I did a bit of a search for this, but couldn't find anything specifically--lemme know if there's an old topic I should reference. Anyway, I'm wondering somewhat about what people's thoughts are on coming up with cool, involving patter for MacDonald's Aces, or an ace assembly in general? For some of my other routines, I tend to frame them in the context of experiences I've had in the past--maybe it sounds a bit selfish, but I throw in stories of things I did when I was a kid (for example,) and considering that I tend to perform with friends or people that I know reasonably well, they always enjoy the story along with the effect. I recently picked up ETMCM Vol. 2, and learned MacDonald's Aces, but I can't for the life of me even begin to think of an engaging story to use for the effect which isn't hokey. On the video, Ammar doesn't give a lot of attention to the presentation, I feel--your presentation depends on what card you have to structure it around (I have to work my presentation around the 2's--aces were interesting enough, but 2's? C'mon...) He acknowledges this, and mentions that we can deal with it by saying (and I quote) "'Have you ever heard of the famous flying tens?' or whatever card you have." That made me roll my eyes a little bit, honestly. Still, I've been practicing and practicing, trying to think of some entertaining patter to go with the effect, but I really can't think of where I'd even begin to start. Where do you all tend to look when trying to come up with good patter? |

Have you looked in Hofzinser's works or in "Erdnase" Expert at the Card Table?

Punx also had an interesting presentation for this classic, found in Magical Adventures and Fairy Tales.

See Punx's The Story of the Four Wishes, found in Magical Adventures and Fairy Tales.
Richard Hatch included this piece in a lecture-exhibition at the Goethe Institute in Houton, Texas many years ago. The combination of effect and presenation created a gestalt - something that's greater than the sum of its parts. I'm sure that Bill Palmer would agree...

Hello,
Well, I did get some fives with the dvd, have to say, I was somewhat dissapointed, it could also have been mac. donalds fives, but they chose not to, and I can understand why. Mostly the aces are there and the other side changes, I recommend anybody to but the mac donald aces dvd that is covering the trick ( few variations )and other stuff that I, ( building up my technique from the bottom ) found very interesting. There is a lot of material for the price, asher twist, interesting fancy cuts and loads more, the teaching is a bit half way ( but understandable ) and on my dvd a part is ' missing ', ( don't know if it was ment to be there ), but the total is more then you could hope for. and yes, YOU GET THE SPECIAL CARDS - THE ACES INCLUDED! ( us playing card co. ) Ramon. |
