Many of us can say that magic made our life, but very few can say that magic saved our life. Laura London can. Born into money and comfortable surroundings, hanging out with famous folks, her family’s life took a dire downward tumble … but magic brought her back. Why have I written a 600-page, 10 pound, full color book on Theodore DeLand? Simply because he is one of the most important men in the history of card magic, right up there with Hofzinser and Vernon. Through his use of ingenious printed gimmicked cards (many of his own invention), and by ingeniously combining multiple printed gimmicks in one card, he did something that no one had done before: freed amateur magicians from the need to learn any sleight of hand.
