Are there Peg people and Loci people?
People who adapt or prefer the peg system vs. People who prefer the loci memory method? When I learned Mnemonica, I used the Memory Palace, or Loci method, took me about an hour, and it was shaky but I could recall the whole stack. With practice I would have kept it. Working on Aronson now, and I decided to follow the Peg instructions as listed in the book and I've been at it for a few days now and I still have trouble with step 1 which is understanding and associating certain sounds with numbers. Step 2 is memorizing the number words, and 3 the cards, and 4 putting them together. I understand the process but man my brain does NOT want to accept the peg method. |

I learned the peg method before applying it to memdeck, so familiarity helped. I prefer peg because, at least at the beginning, you have a tool to go from number -> peg -> associated card image -> card and viceversa. It's a bit intensive, but there are phone apps that help with training 13 cards at the time. Then follow Woody Aragon's suggestion and take a break between the 2 halves of the deck. It will turn useful for some effects.
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death my right to say "scr*w you" if you persist. [Voltaire ]

Like it's been pointed out, there's a big benefit to using the Peg System for a mem deck. The key to many powerful mem deck effects relies on being able to know the card/position connection out of sequence. The Loci system doesn't enable you to do that. If you need to quickly figure out what card is at the 37th position, Peg is the best way to go.
I originally learned it from the master himself, Mr. Lorayne, from his book "How to Develop a Super Power Memory. I found it easy because it made sense to me. For example 1 = "t" or "d" because both have the long stem, like the number 1. 2 = n because it has 2 legs. 3 = m for the same reason...etc. Each of the connections intuitively seemed organic so learning the sounds for each of the letters was a pretty quick task. Have that down cold and the rest will be much easier. |

Hey Chris.Z, why not throw everything and the kitchen sink at it?
Use the peg system Use the Trustman book to throw memory palace at it http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/10289 And use this Amazing app by Sam Gherman (hands down the best, IMO) Learn Mnemonica by Cube MG LLC https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/learn-mn......589?mt=8 If I had to choose only one, I would use the app (it quizzes you and turns learning into a game. There is also one for Aaronson and all other stacks) but you don’t have to. All the complimentary memory techniques will come together to supercharge your efforts. If you need any encouragement, PM me The important thing to remember is that everyone learns their own way. Just persist, and you will do this. |

Peg system all the way. I just read Harry’s book (Super Power Memory) all the way through for the first time. Loads of great stuff in there. If I could go back in time I would’vE made it a point to memorize all the pegs (1-100) in his system.
The Aronson stack is the first thing I learned when I came into magic and mentalism back in 2011. I did exactly what it says in the book and within a few weeks I had it down. I learned 10 cards a day through use of the peg system. Within a few days I knew it, then you need to perform effects that help you practice mem deck effects such as Simon’s Two Beginnings, and the Invisible Card. I don't know why there are so many posts on here about the trouble with memorizing a deck. Use the peg system, memorize a 10-15 cards a day, and you have it. Get a cheap deck of cards and write the card number with magic marker on the back of each card and drill yourself both ways. I could probably do it in a day now with confidence of the peg system. |

I highly recommend Harry Lorayne's Memory Book. I took it upon myself to memorize all the peg words from 1-100 and the card words (all of which are extremely easy to learn once you understand the major system), and I swear, within about half an hour, I memorized the entire Mnemonica stack! I tried rote memory, downloaded different apps, and nothing helped, until I finally gave Harry's system a try. I was shocked at how easily I was able to retain all that information!
So, peg system all the way! The advantage of pegs is you immediately know the card and its position in the deck. Can't thank Harry enough. Hope this helps. Cheers! Mor |

Do these memory systems only work in English, or are they language independent?

I don't know about "these memory systems" but my books are printed in quite a few languages. Just have to make changes to fit.
