I always had to check the little cards. But I know exactly where the section is in any bookstore- right between card games and video games. And it's usually fairly empty, sadly enough.

I think that's a highly personal question.
Whether I "decimal" or not is none of your business!

793 - I recall this from the Westchester branch of the Los Angeles Public Library, a little more than 40 years ago.

I just now changed my signature to include this phenomena. We had about 6 or 7 books in our library and that was all the instruction I had until I went off to college. These kids don't know how easy they have it .. rushing off to penguinmagic or ellusionist anytime they want. I remember learning crazy man's handcuffs after 2 years of fiddling with it after seeing it on a Copperfield special; one day it just clicked. Now people can have access to it with a simple youtube search.
All small town magicians know what 793.8 signifies.

I apologize, I'd forgotten I'd already answered this.

I remembered.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Had the first two digits right. Spent time in the occult section too (133).
What a weird little kid.

Sure they will. They'll spot the magic books next to the jokes and puzzle books you sent them to.

793.8 is still a little too vague for anyone getting into magic at a deeper level. Has there been any developments of further sub-categoring ‘magic’ for those developing wider as well as more specialised interests for their personal libraries? Or is it up to the individual to develop one?

I've never seen more than a handful of terrible beginner magic books in local libraries.

Off the top of your head, do you know the Dewey Decimal code for books on magic tricks?

Nope, but I probably used to.

Indoor games and amusements.
For historical fiction, fine arts, finger exercises, or literary misinterpretation - look elsewhere. Smile
