Hello everyone,
While at Weerd Weekend a few years ago I saw a wonderfully strange act! The infamous Mark Edwards had a routine on (of all things!) Roswell NM. At weerd Weekend you can expect to see things you never thought you would. But this was really different. A map on the wall was behind the spectator. But affter seeing a picture of an alien the spectator stuck a pin in the map..never looking behind her. Where did the pin land? Why in Roswell of course. The whole routine was mentalism spun into the yarn of the crash and wonderfully done! My question is.... Is anyone out there doing magick that concerns our little grey "Guests". If so, what type of an effect is it? Oh and for all you Buffs out there that thought the Roswell crash was neat, check out this strange story and more. http://www.ufocasebook.com/Aurora.html Magickman

I do a version of Out to Lunch with the UFO theme.
I draw a circle on my card, symbolizing Earth, and the subject initials inside it as 'observer.' I then draw a cartoony UFO with an alien pilot over the Earth, and have the observer sign the other side of the card. I then take on the role of an MiB (Man in Black), telling the observer, "You did NOT see a UFO; it was a figment of your imagination." When the observer turns the card over, the UFO is gone. Steve

Just because you don't believe doesn't mean it won't be an entertaining piece to present. Do you really believe you can perform whatever effects you do without misdirection, gimmicks or in some cases mental gymnastics? No personal punches here but I'm just saying you don't have to personally believe in something in order to perform and present it with great impact. You might be surprised at how many of your audience members do believe there is something out there. :0)

Roswell is about 4 hours south of Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I live. There is a hokey alien "museum" there (which I have not seen) and a real museum of Robert Goddard's rockets and workshop.
There are a couple of books documenting the Roswell "flying saucer crash" and the evolution of the story from a weather balloon that was carrying some (then) secret sonar instruments in an effort to detect atom bomb explosions in the Soviet Union. (We now have much better methods of detection.) There is an alien festival every year in Roswell. Side note: There is a legend that rocket tests at nearby White Sands Missile Range were sometimes delayed by unknown blips on the radar screens monitoring the tests.

Sorry about that, but I think you got me wrong. I only wanted to say that I don´t believe in UFOs. I said nothing about performing UFO-styled effects.... Magixx

I thought a nice relic from a crash site that shows PK type power might be nice.
And with todays printers it would be easy to make "scene photos". Perhaps while checking out a crop circle you find this weird metal like object that no one knows what it is made of. While taking pictures this flew over head. Hand them a nice ufo in a hometown photo (some well known building/landscape in the picture. Then show the strange powers of metal. Dr. Midnight, Clever routine there! Magickman

I'm currently designing/working on some props for my 'The Dark Museum' effect themed to 'Ancient Astronauts'...will be fun stuff and only a few will be made. If any established performers are interested just PM or email me.
The UFO thing is huge world wide...general population type folks are so confused by real science and junk science they don't know what to believe. It's almost a solid bet though that if it's a Triangle shaped craft sighted it's a USA built overflight of something very new and very large and very scary. Doug

Fun with grey's seems appropriate. Nobody I know has the black contact lenses and odd artifacts. Though.... the Tenyo stuff might pass as Roadside Picnic type stuff.

Jonathon...Odd artifacts??? Museum Grade? Just hang in there a little bit...something is on the way that is far beyond the dull over done Greys..getting more into 'Chariot's Of The Gods' territory...see my above post.

Doug, have you read the Strugatski brother's story Roadside Picnic?
The idea of ANCIENT alien and out of place artifacts is ripe for magic as well.

You bet it is...no I haven't read it, and when creating or writing I stay away from other stuff....but I'm working on something that is well beyond dime store alien crap...I think you're gonna like it! It'll be in a couple of days and I'll have it nailed down.

Hey Midnight
I'm doing a very similar routine this Tuesday, but I have one of those memory loss pens that they use in the Men In Black that I purchased here at Universal. It's a little bigger than the one in the movie and it doesn't flash...just makes noise and has a glowing red light.....but I say the battery is low and it only makes them forget part of the OTL images. Your routine sound great! I do it more of a "22 blows to the Head "way, that's what sparked my thinking. If you'd like one of these pens I could get you one? This is a great subject! Magicman Have you been to Charlie Carlsons Weird Florida site? Dave

For the few who have not read this classic of science fiction, here is a bit of reveiw posted online:
"The Zones are places of dark magic and miracles, almost inevitably fatal, where nothing makes sense. But these very same qualities are the ones that enable them to hold such a glamour over grubby and grubbing humanity and drag in endless victims to satisfy the curiosity of the scientists outside." The good news is this story is far more available today than when I went looking long ago. Enjoy!

I PM'd you regarding the 'neuralizer' pen, Slim. Never been to Carlson's, but will have to note it for a future trip to Florida.
The routine I described I also do with a ghost theme, drawing a silhouette Victorian house, a sheet ghost, and using an Okito Voodoo Doll (Lwa doll) to 'draw the psychological ghost from the card into the doll.' Steve

The STORY or MYTH about UFOs, grey aliens etc is interesting regardless of any physical reality to the subject. Like garden knomes and the easter rabbit, they are part of our culture. Perhaps the gnomes are just aliens in disguise?

There is no doubt about it! There ARE...UNIDENTIFIED flying objects.....UFO's. Many flying objects remain "Unidentified" and probably always will be. That said....whether they contain "Aliens" is a different story. I personally believe that there is a strong tie between Sasquatch and UFO's.The first newpaper reports of either were in Washington State, within 50 miles of each other. Both near volcanic mountains in the area. Check it out.
