Johnny Tompson on his dove act has one silk he spins it around and he pulls it apart and he now holds two silks. Does anyone know where I could buy this gimmick?

I am not sure it's a gimmick. It might be a slight of hand.

I think I noticed this item for sale at one or two stores but I can't remember where at this time. I will post again should I recall. However, you may want to get a little booklet by Jerry Mentzer (Daytona Magic usually carries it) entitled "Silk Potpourri". In it he shows you how to do several silk routines but the ones more to what you are asking for are:
(1) Double Knot (gimmicked) --- a silk is displayed and a knot is tied in its center. When the performer blows on the knot, the knot dissolves and the silk seems to split into silks. (2) Double Knot (ungimmicked) (3) Triple silk (gimmicked) --- similar to above but with an extra step so that at the end of the routine you are left with a string of three silks. Hope this helps. You can do this without any gimmick. Just slight of hand. Any book about basic silk will show you how to do that. Hint, wear button shirt.

General Grant's Dove Lecture explains this very well.

This was a trick sold by Guaranteed Magic, Bob Little, owner.
Gen Grant does not use the gimmick silk. He just irons them together. |
