If you are interested in learning some great TT handling, you need this DVD. Although Jay Scott Berry's demonstrations use his Eclipse Tip, the moves and positions are just as valid for the standard TT. Between this DVD and the Patrick Page Secret Seminar video on the TT, you can do just about anything with a TT. And, there is only one move that is an overlap with the Page video. I know many Café members are familiar with all of this. But, if, by some chance, you haven't yet visited Jay's website and viewed the demo clips, your missing out on what IMHO is some really elegant magic.

His handling of TT is one of the best I've seen. The Eclipse tip itself is a step forward in TT evolution.

I get confused between his "Cloaking Device" and his "Eclipse" device. Is the cloaking device his variation of the san**a gimmick and his elipse device his variation of the TT?

And then there are his "Candelyte" device (for floating a lit flame from a candle)and his "Genesis" device (for floating an unfolded dollar bill). This guy is really clever and his performances are what magic really looks like.

Yup you got that right. Cloaking device is a modified San**a gimmick. FS/2 is another different variation of the San**a gimmick. Totally different from Eclipse which is a TT.

Based upon Mike's post, it sounds like JSB has more products than he shows on his website. What's up?

Nicholas,

I purchased the "Eclipse" and the "Candelyte" from magic dealers many many years ago. (Probably 15+). I didn't mean to start anything or go into any type of "bragging" routine. Frankly, I'm surprised to learn that these might not still be available since I always assumed these to be stock items of Jay's.

Sorry if I started something. I certainly didn't mean to.

Mike,
Not at all...just curious since I have recently come to appreciate (and actually become inspired) by what Jay Scott Berry does. I've never done a silent act...but am contemplating the possibilities. Just last night I took another look at his ring and ribbon demo video (on his website). I can see that a lot is similar to moves on Ring Leader. However, even those are done in such a natural, open, and unusually effective way, I might just have to make a purchase. There are some moves, also, that I am not at all familiar with. Of course, any kind of levitation (open dollar bill) is of great interest. I can only imagine what his take on that might be. So, thanks for sharing your tidbit!!!

Yo can buy his excellent Eclipse here:
http://www.jayscottberry.com/effects.html

I bought it from Jay when he did a great lecture in sweden many years ago.
The Eclipse is the only TT I use, works like a dream.

Kjellstrom,
I agree that the eclipse tip is excellent. On the Total Eclipse DVD I not only like what the tip allows you to do, but I like Jay's overall handling. It gave me many more moves with even a regular TT. I would have loved to see him give a lecture as you have mentioned doing. I am curious...did he reveal any performance philosophy or tips...or...did you come away with any particular impressions...that you would be able to share?

Everything he does at his lecture is pure eye candy. It looks like pure magic. I had to purchase a number of his DVDs and products after seeing him lecture. His methods are very reasonable and effective. His Topit work is also very elegant.

5 out of 5 stars

Mike.

I'm sure glad that Jay came out with videos wherein he demonstrates his products. Case in point: when I first received his "Candelyte" (for floating a candle flame off of a candle and onto the top of a dollar bill) and his "Genesis" (for floating an unfolded dollar bill), I looked at these and thought: "What pieces of crap!!. No one will ever "fall" for these. There is just no way that these can be conviningly performed!!!!" And, I promptly put them in my junk drawer and was pi**ed at having fallen for yet another stupid over-blown over-hyped magic trick.

Well, boy! Was I ever wrong!! Seeing Jay's handling of these devices is just jaw-dropping amazing. While I will probably never do the "Candelyte" (not really my style of magic) I can see me learning and performing the "Genesis" floating dollar bill effect. Jay's handling of showing both hands empty, his ringing in the gaff and ringing out the gaff is seamless and a joy to watch.

And watching his performance of "Symphony of the Ring" and his performance using his "Eclipse" and his performance using his "Cloaking Device"--well this is just what magic would look like if it was real. No phony moves. No useless chatter. Just wonderment and very clean appearances, floatings and vanishes--ane all at the finger tips.

Yes sir. I thank my lucky stars for the day Jay released his videos and I then watched his performances for the first time.

Mike

P.S. Come to think of it, maybe I can find a use for the "Candleyte"; there is always Halloween.

Jay changed my way of thinking when it comes to make magic more magical. He has a very smooth and clean style. Thanks Jay for sharing your magic.
Many of his concepts are very unique, not just tricky demonstrations, its like real magic!

Mike (Turk),
It sure is eye candy...I love to just watch...over and over and over...
Mike (What),
I agree. If you got the gimmick and never saw the performance, it would be difficult to imagine just what the potential there would be.
Kjellstrom,
Again, I couldn't agree more. And, when I see his performance, I get the feeling that there is this magical experience going on that delights him personally - and - that he is having the pleasure of sharing with his audience. If I could only convey the same thing (a) personal wonder, and b) delight in sharing)...as effectively...and consistently, I would be very happy indeed!
Thanks to all for your input on this one!

I am unfamiliar with the Eclipse gimmick. Can someone tell me what makes this better than a regular TT? Thanks in advance...

You don't need to take the TT off your finger when yo for an ex. produce a silk or whatever yo will do...
Looks very clean, show your hands empty and just from nowhere a silk appears with no "sneaky" moves.

I just received this DVD. All I can say is...

*** A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! ***

Even if you don't have the gimmick you can modify your own TT (if rubber).

This gimmick is great, but what's 200 times better is his many, MANY Handlings of the TT. Jay has overly mastered the TT.

If everyone who thinks they know how to get the most use and technique out of your TT... I will stand on a soapbox and yell out... "YOU ARE DEAD WRONG!!!"

I've been using a TT for nearly 20 years with silks, sponge balls, paper money, etc. and thought I knew the basics and then a lot more.... OH MY GOSH... Jay has ultimately re-invented the TT for me and will for nearly 99% of you!!

My suggestion is buy this.... You will not be sorry-- Trust me!!!

My only complaint on this DVD is that there is no talking on the DVD-- Only 1980's music. However, he instructs in a way that there is no need for verbal directions.

Bottom-line... Buy this!!!
