Just wondering what others use to keep their "magic" stuff together.. I'm still kinda new to the magic game but I've got a good bit of stuff collected <ie gimmicks, cards, silks> and not sure what to keep them in for easy transportation..
brief case? back pack? I want my investments protected but again I don't want to pay a million bucks to do so.. thnx in advance.. |

I never carry mine in a backpack, it's way too easy to for the props to move around and get boken. it depends on what props you want to carry. I would suggest a brief case or tackle box. for more ideas, visit the "where to put it all" forum, there are a lot of good ideas on storage and transportation there.

I use an inexpensive machinist's box purchased at Sam's Warehouse. It holds dozens of decks of cards, packet tricks, coins, smaller accessories, magician's rope, etc.

For many years I have used an old doctors bag, or rather, a doctors old style bag samilar to the bag that rent collectors used. on the bottom I have thick sponge with cut outs to hold cards, card fountain, chop cup etc. Really can recommend this item.

Similar to a doctors bag is a bag for sale at Homedepot or Lowes etc. It is a brown or black canvas bag that is zippered on top and allows for closing some even have pockets around the outside. I have a large one that has a secret drawer in the bottom with a plastic slide that has like a tupperware devided area in it...they cost around $15 worth the look

For strolling, I use a catalog case, which I keep behind the scenes during the gig.
For kidshows, I keep the props in a large, colorful, plastic tote which I have resting on a restaurant tray stand. For stand-up gigs for grown-ups, I keep the props in a duffle bag, with a box inside. This rests on a tray stand. |

I've started using this case and I love it. Lots of compartments to hold things, and I keep all my balloons in the bottom.

Also available at Lowes is an aluminum case with foam interior that can be cut out to fit your individual props. Around 25 bucks, I think. I have 7 of them.

Don't use a Doctor's bag, those are for doctors! (have you every seen a doctor with a suitcase table or shiny briefcase?) If you're doing a medical-themed act, then a doctor's bag would be great!
Back in the old days, they were the most sturdy, long-lasting bags around. Old magicians would use them because there weren't any other carrying cases. Well, nowadays we have tons of options! Lowe's or Home Depot have tool cases that look like metal aluminum briefcases. You can also get a suitcase table, which is especially useful if you're going places, doing shows. It really depends on how much stuff you have, what you do with your stuff (store it, perform daily, etc.) Good luck! |

I use a multiple bags and my custom made case to carry my stuff depending on my venue including a violin case. This morning I went to ( you won't believe this stuff) http://www.stupid.com and saw a coffin purse. I looked like it would make a cool magic case for the right individual. They were all out of George Bush playing cards though. Pattrick

I just won't leave my props unattended, unless I have the luggage lock on the duffle. The duffle I use has wheels on it, making transport easy, although I'm thinking of trying to work the act out of a smaller duffle in the future, making it still easier to maneuver between banquet tables. As it is, I have a lot of extra space in the duffle because of the improvements I've made in prop management. |

When I first started into magic I looked into all the cases on the market(about $250 a case) and found some simple solutions. I found a simple black trunk at a resale shop for $5 (good for me right). Poped $10 in casters on the bottom for travel. Some self stick felt on the top that I got at a craft store for $1.39 a sheet (I needed 2). Some spare lightweight wood from a friend for shelves. Toped it off with my magic logo on computer paper and some elmers glue (decoupage). I now have the coolest magic box I have ever seen for less than $20 bucks.
My point is to think outside the "box". |

I too use the Malloy close-up case, which is excellent.
Everything stands upgright in it, which could be a factor depending on what you put in there. I just wish they made a slightly larger version, as it's already stuffed !
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

This is just what I made for about $50.00 and about an hours time. Everything comes apart for easy transportation and no tricks get messed up with the dividers and foam at the top. I'm using mine for restaurant.
