The Encylcopedia mentions a flourish called the "yo" and credits Lee Asher. The description is a one handed repeating ribbon from dealing position. Anyone know about this? Where is it published? Vertical or horizontal ribbon?

Incidentally, it is mentioned on page 176 the end of the springs and drops section.

Hey ragtop,

Yo! was published by Lee Asher in his "Sex Sells" notes at http://www.leeasher.com. It's a vertical ribbon spread in midair, and the description over at the site reads this: "Imagine throwing the deck in the air so it separates and you can see ALL the faces of the cards. Instantly the cards return to your hand completely squared - not one dropped!" Here's the direct link if you can't be bothered to find it:

http://www.leeasher.com/product_sexsells.htm

If you want to actually see it in performance, Lee Asher also taught it in his road trip with Paul Wilson in Hit the Road (also available from Asher's site), and over at the Magic Video Depot I think I saw a performance video of it once or twice.

Hope that helped you out!

C.

Incidentally, it looks almpst like the legendary one-handed spring (to laymen). Hope that gives you a mental picture of the Yo!.

The yo is tight. When I was hanging out with Lee in St louis I saw him do it. Looks great on the dvd but looks even more killer in person. Its for sure a tight move. He is correct as well, a lot of people think its the one handed spring. I can do it but not as smooth as Ash daddy.

Its something like the one handed spring but the move is successful due to momentum of the hand. its totally different from the one hand spring which requires something else

as mentioned, it is performed and taught by lee asher in the dvd "hit the road"

I have a little tale for you,

I was in the center of Hartford and these tough guys came over to me and said they noticed that I had some skill with the cards. They told me to show them something. So I did "YO" like Lee Asher does in the video with the little wink and everything. Then the guys said, "what kind of loser does that, that sucked". Then they beat me up and stole my money. They said next time I better show them something good.

Until next time,

Stam, the Yo is a nice flourish, but definitely not for all occasions Smile

Thanks for the info guys.

Stam, so you think those guys just hate Lee Asher? Or was it the wink.......

Anyway, if I ever learn this flourish I will be sure to avoid doing it in Hartford......maybe in all of Connecticut.....

Good idea. I too live in Connecticut and know the perils of performing "Yo"...

In cases of uncertainty, don say 'yo'. jus do it. If the audience don seem to react, then quickly move onto a card trick Smile

that way, they will jus think you were playing with the cards. Sometimes, saying 'Yo' to stangers can be a bit tactless

All the best and hope you are recovering Smile

Why do you have to think homosexually? And don't tell me you didn't mean that at all, you know you meant that very well.

I combined Lee Asher with some Cap Casino and I ended up with a black eye, so I don't think I'll be pulling "YO's" ever again.

Until next time,

Instead of saying "Yo", be more formal in the hood and do and outright

"hey dawg, wussup my homies y'all be tellin aight? I got me aki mofo pimp juice in the back of my TRUNK and y'all sure can chill wit us too. DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN straight!"

Fer real.

lol, I'm glad you don't. But seriously, you should always be tactful about where and how you perform flourishes. I think that the wink was especially inappropriate.

Hehe... glad you verified that for us, Chris. I wouldn't want a guy to profess his love for me, let alone someone with the nickname "the SHOCKER" :|

Anyhow, on ther topic of "yo"... a while back on the Dan and Dave forums, I suggested a few dope applications of the move, such as an "Overhead Yo!" (which jasonsoll made a video of), ramping the packet off the middle finger in a Cobra Cut so as to make the "Yo!bra Cut", and kicking a Yo! off of the foot Buck style.... "VertiYo!"

There are over a dozen applications for Lee's great move, but just like Cheesedale Cheese, it's still good all by itself.

No offence but when you think about it? Picture doing flourish for a bunch of guys. Do a Cobra and wink at a bunch of guys? Do you think that looks any better?
