Hi Larry
I'd like to know what effects you are always ready to perform at any time. This can be impromptu with borrowed items or none at all. Alternatively, is there "something" you don't leave home without? thanks Alton |

Hi Alton. I generally carry a couple sets of my gaffed business cards. Lately, also the Illuminati hotel room keys. Both fit comfortably in a small business card case. A very close friend (my illigitimate son) wears loops on his wrists just about everywhere he goes. I'm sure you know what can be done with those. Regards- Larry

Would you recommend a particular effect that can be done impromptu without the use of any prop? but not those kind of Grey-elephant-in-Denmark mathematical effects.
Imagine you are on the beach, and you don't have your gaffed business cards nor your room Keys. What would you do? Thanks! |

Cold reading most likely or revealing a mentally selected card using verbal deception and visual signing to help implant the image of the correct card. Derren Brown does this beautifully. Failure is however an option, but then again if it works you're de man.

I'm not familiar with th term visual signing, but it sounds intriguing. Could you briefly describe what that is?

Derren Brown has a chapter on visual signing in his book Pure Effect. Basically, you tell the spectator to visualize a card, but the way you instruct them to visualize it leads them to think of a particular card. I haven't tried this but I thought it was the most interesting part of the book.

Fred is right on and while extremely bold...it does work.

Unfortunately Derren explains the technique on the Channel 4 site. I'm a bit surprised that he would give away such a powerful subtlety.

I guess it's not unlike magic. If you want to keep something secret...put it in print.
