Paul Daniels - essential viewing as a youngster
Also thought the Piddingtons (hope I got that right) did a great mentalism act from the clips I have seen - great and imaginative use of radio. Not that this is too relevant, but David Devants' house is around the corner from where I live. He even has a blue placque on the outside that tells you the dates he lived there from. |

I believe Richard was the very first magician I saw perform live, over 30 years ago, and was partially responsible for my interest in magic. A real blast from the past! I have to also pipe up and give another mention to David Nixon, Ali Bongo, Paul Daniels, Tommy Cooper and Robert Harbin (who in my childhood, was more recognizable as the presenter of a TV series on Origami). Harbin was also the first president of "The Mystic Ring", a magic club I joined (a little while before I left for the US) in my home town, now in its 50th year: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/steve.milro......tml.html The current president of that organization, Rex Cooper, is a magician from my home town, also partially responible for turning me on to magic when I was a child. |

Don't forget Ron MacMillan and Geoffrey Buckingham.
Also Scott Penrose, absolute genius! And his father John too. Edward Victor!! The man who made Cut and Restored rope famous, and orginated a lot of moves, I believe he inspired tilt... Richard Bellars, 2nd best card thrower in the world. Bob Read. Billy McComb? Bobby Bernard! (Or is he just a local legend?) Not a bad country after all, and to think we couldn't put a magician on stage at the last FISM!! Paul |
