The Carter poster....Carter Beats the Devil! Actually, has anybody read that book? I read around 200 pages, and then I stopped. Good book so far.
But anyways, are there any good books on woodwork? Any recommendations? I actually found a site online...: http://www.sawdustmaking.com I have to start looking through that. Daniel |

LOL Yes, along with Max Abrams, Bill Wells, Charlie Randall, Pete Biro, Geno Munari and many others who are listed as charter members on the certificate (there is an image of the cert at the site too) as members gathered and we took it to the board of the IBM to approve such a new (remember, this was pre internet) idea. I think the chronology of events is probably there on the MAGIC! site to read through. It all happened online. Hmmmm. I just took a look at the charter and I don't see your name on it anywhere Rick. Take a look. http://questx.com/magic!/charter.html -=tabman

Daniel, if you can do a neat job burning it in, that's how I might do it. I think Michael Baker does some woodburning. I bet he could give you some good advice when he signs in. I know you have to have some patience. Burn it, sand it and seal it up with some oil. Lets see a pic!!!
If you want to see some good books on woodworking get a copy of Fine Woodworking Magazine and look through the book ads in there. I'm sure there must be vast amounts of knowledge available on the net and the library would be loaded with books like this too; doesn't matter if they're old. The basic skills havent changed since the days of yore!!! -=tabman

At that time, I wasnt a member of IBM, but I was on MAGIC! when you and David and the others were forming it. I was there, just not in the 'charter' thanks to the blond ex-wife.
Renee thought it cost too much to join IBM, which is why I didn't get to become a member until 1996 and of course, Syd was all for it. (She's a member too). |

What we need is a Tabman webcam. Nothing like learning and watching the master would be more knowledge that's in ANY book!

PHEW! I got most of the cutting done, just need to get a few more little chunks off. Then that's where the Dremel comes in handy once again. I know I'm going to have a snow day tomorrow, so I'll be working...
Mr. Ruhl: I'll second that |

Course I'd need to run some network wire, install a computer, a webcam. Whew!!! Maybe not. Too much work and $$$. Would be cool for the website though. -=tabman

Hi Daniel,
I may have misrepresented myself as a woodburner. I had mentioned that I had some ideas for burned-in designs on wands (still want to do it), but at present, I haven't done any serious woodburning in years. The basic equipment is not that hard to use... if you are a patient soul. You have to go slow and don't try to force anything. Mistakes happen quickly and they are difficult to repair. The better hobby shops and Arts/Crafts supply stores should carry basic kits. If you don't have anything near you, check these: Michael's Hobby Lobby (Crafts, etc.) I think I may have missed something. What is it you are making that needs writing? On books and magazines: I have found some really good specialized books at bookstores like Barnes & Noble. I've found some really nice books on woodturning, finishing, etc. Don't forget Lowes and HomeDepot for their resource materials. Sears also carries some books. I used to subscribe to American Woodworker, Shop Notes, and Woodsmith. All were good magazines. I only stopped when I realized I was accumulating more trees worth of paper than wood. Ha! Here is my favorite store, although not cheap. They carry some awesome stuff. Woodcraft You probably have one near you. I see they are all over New England. Check their website and check out all the beautiful woods they carry. Don't forget the one super source that's free... PBS. They run several shows that spill the good tips on a weekly basis. Other freebies: If you don't mind getting a pile of junk mail, fill out some little shopper survey questionnaires (Publishers' Clearing House Sweepstakes, etc.), and check the boxes on all the woodworking stuff you can find if they ask for interests or hobbies. You'll start getting all kinds of free stuff in the hopes you'll subscribe to their magazine or book clubs. Lowes has an online newsletter that you may want to sign up for. I haven't checked Home Depot, but they probably do, too. Also as Tabman said, don't forget the public library. I've earned half my education there. ~michael

What we need is a webcam on you Rick. You're the one with the real job!!! Nope, just need a wireless webcam and a wireless router, hook that into the hub and have it automaticly update a page on your website in real time. I did have a office webcam at one time that sent jpgs to the website. The girls didn't like it, so they turned it to the wall. LOL But yes, I have a webcam at the office and here. Most of the time, I'll use it on yahoo messenger. I don't have a real job, I'm in business for myself, it's an adventure in loosing money LOL. |

I'm so lucky that I didn't have to help my dad and brother outside LOL. I just had to finish organizing my magic room. I'm glad that I finally received my electric violin, WOOHOO!
Mr. Baker: I plan on burning a little area of plywood. It's going to be a cross with a ribbon around it that says 'Bust Loose'. To be exact, it's the ribbon and words that I need to burn. Once I get the cutting and small bit of sanding done, I'll try to get a pic. up to show you. Thanks for the guidance. LOL I like the name of the pic. Sir Tabman Daniel |

Snow??? I haven't seen snow in a couple years. (If it's not at least an inch deep, it doesn't count.)
A day in the shop and then a magic club meeting tonight. Pretty cold tonight. Dress warm, Sir No Bob! ~michael

Let me clarify... my idea of snow is an inch or more... but I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Midwesterner (Yankee, to all Southerners). Here in Birmingham, the mention of the "S" word, causes mass hysteria... all the milk and bread disappear from the grocery store shelves and human brains litter the ground, having apparently fallen out of people's heads.

It's already about melted here but its bitter cold today and now muddy. Hard to work in an unheated shop on days like this.
