Have you been asked to present a show with religious themes or is this a Day Care that caters only to those who are of the Christian belief system? If the answer is no to any of the above you'd be best to steer clear of trying to put a gospel message into your performance. However if the answer is affirmative to the aforesaid mentioned queries you might do better and ask your question in the Gospel Magic Section of the Magic Café. There are many there who can give you far better advice than you might find here in the Secular areas.

Payne is right. You first want to make sure that they want you to present a gospel style message with your magic. You never want to assume it. It is always just better to ask it and find out what their thoughts are.

if they do want you to do that, then you can PM me or I can post here some ideas for you that I have used for some of my church banquet shows that I do.

Magic Man, Payne has given some good advice. Try to discover a little more about what's expected at this show. Also bear in mind that Christians do enjoy secular magic as well as Gospel Magic. If you're stuck for some Gospel ideas then mix in some secular effects as well. I do magic for kids at our church youth groups and there's nothing they like more than seeing someone being sawn in half!! Smile
Alternatively you could just put some kind of 'moral' theme to your regular tricks. All the best for the show, whatever you decide to do.

As to Christian magic, you might want to check the forums in The Good News, which are devoted entirely to religiously based magical performances, Kyle. They cover children's magic quite heavily in there and are more than willing to help newcomers and just about everyone else with Gospel magic presentations.

Hope this helps!

This gospel magic is certainly an American thing. I think it would be looked at extremely askance in Britain.

I well remember the late Goodliffe of Abra fame musing in his columns about what bad taste it all was. Tut-tutting in great disapproval of the matter. Clash of cultures. Lots of American things would raise eyebrows in the UK.

Of course Goodliffe made his living selling religious artifacts of all kinds. He made a mint out of it. I heard he was a millionaire from it. I remember he used to show up at the magic conventions in his Rolls Royce. He certainly wasn't averse to making a shilling or two out of religion himself.

He was one of the few people in the world that was ever granted a Papal knighthood.

Oh, I don't know Holmes. I think you'll find there are more Gospel Magicians in the UK than you'd think. In fact there's even a dealer from Rochdale, Lancs, who specialises in selling Gospel orientated effects, http://www.tricksfortruth.com .
There's a forum linked to their site specifically for Gospel Magicians to get to know one another and there are quite a few conventions/workshops held in the UK throughout the year. As a Christian myself, I have no problems with it and present it myself at various churches and youth groups.
