I love th world of celebrity. I read heat every week and it makes me happy.
I have heard that alakazam are releasing a trick called celebrity deck. I like the idea of combining magic with the magical world of celebrity. Does anyone now any more about it? Magic mike I go through jade goodies bins. |

I don't have any info on the new celebrity deck but I think this could be a fabulous utility item for mentalists, especially ones averse to using playing traditional cards (of which, nowadays, there seem to be many)! I hope the deck's creator is soliciting effects using it from mentalism performers!

I've been long searching for a deck of 52 celebrities for use in another routine. I'm very anxious to know if this offers 52 different cards, or if it's a variation of a Fred (or Oscar or Phil) deck. If so, any hopes of having a complete celebrity deck available? If anybody has info on this, thanks!

This sounds neat. What is the effect...all the ads are very vague...

Peter demoed this to me at Bristol Day of Magic and it it great. Very clever, and you get to chose the celbrities that are written on the back yourself, as you get to write them. Bascially, you cut the cards and look at the card you cut to, then you name your favourite celebrity, that celebritys name is then searched for on the back of the cards, and when it is turned over, it matches your selected card. Nice trick that you will use as everyone loves celebs, and you can play on who they choose, so many gags can come from this trick

Sounds like a cool effect except for having to write your own celebrities.

Sounds like a cool effect except for having to write your own celebrities. Actually writing the Celeb's yourself is a big advantage. It means you don't have to go with the celebrity theme if you don't want to, and can instead theme it to a specific situation. For example the cards could have different Football teams, Different companies (for a tradeshow), different employees in the company you were performing at, different films, different authors, different whatever - you get the idea. |

That's a good point Bananafish. I guess I was just remembering back to a trick I bought a few years ago, maybe Nomen Omen but not sure as I've forgotten the name. Anyway, in that trick you had to write names on all the cards and because of the method, I went through about 3 sharpies. I was just hoping this trick didn't have the same method/prep time as that trick.

The reason why you will have a hard time to find any celebrity decks is due to problems with copyrights. It takes a huge effort to produce one. This is a pity since a deck with celebrities means that you can perform card effects that will have a whole new dimension and be something more than just card tricks.
The magic happens in the head of the spectator and single card like for example the six of diamonds will not rise as many brain connections as for example Elisabeth Taylor. In mentalism routines this will get another kind of reactions. If you play around with a deck of celebrities using the card effects you already know, you will probably come up with some original stuff.

Why Kamus? I've heard they're always gracious, down to earth, and nice to everyone. (yeah...right. haha)

Does anyone actually have this trick? Sounds a lot like all the other "name" decks I have.

Kamus, maybe you could perform torn and not restored celebrity? How about an Ambitious Card effect where the biggest star always rises to the top? Wild Card where all different celebrities turn into the same one (maybe a "six steps to Kevin Bacon" presentation)? My bet is that Wayne Dobson's effect is top notch. |

Kamus,
For what it's worth, I agree with you. And those who promote the cult of celebrity are part of the problem. Incidentally, writing in your own celebrity names is really a must if you perform internationally. --Josh |

Here's a demo of the effect I found online...
http://www.alakazam.co.uk/demos/celbdeck.rm The workings seem pretty obvious, but it looks like something I'll definitely be purchasing in the future. Caleb
