I tried the demo again; it should work. When I click it I get a new window to pop up that looks blank. Wait a few minutes and your real media player should play the clip. Hope this helps.

I bought this from Peter about 2 years ago and I guess I thought 'oh its only a subtle variation on the S******* principle, that's old hat' and I kind of ignored it for 2 years. It sat in my reserve box since then until about 3 months ago when I was about to do a table magic booking and was looking for something else and thought 'lets give this a go' and I am so glad I did.
It is perfect for table hopping. It has the celebrity appeal which is a great hook in for most people, it can be performed in the hands or on a table, there are no moves to do so you can concentrate on the presentation and patter, it resets instantly and I've had some great reactions from it. You even get some spares, so you can swap new celebs in as you wish. You just don't want to do it at the same table twice. Other than that its easy to do and and a very pleasing commercial effect. |

It would seem - as ever - that I've stumbled upon this effect and this thread much later than everyone else. I'm a little behind the times I suppose.
Anyway, I've just seen the demo for 'Celebrity Deck' and I think it's a fantastic idea. It's versatile, commercial and I think it's a trick I'll do a lot. I've not yet received my order, but from the demo it would seem as though it's on Bicycle stock (why wouldn't it be?) which, in my view, gives it an edge over the Phil Deck. The writing on the back of the Celebrity Deck is also in view from the start, so a deck switch is not suspicious. Whereas I feel that with 'Phil', it does worry me using Protea cards when all my other effects are with Bikes. My biggest concern about buying the Celebrity Deck is that now I'll have one more deck of cards I'll be carrying everywhere! Syd |

Paul Gertner did a card trick years ago on Johnny Carson.
Johnny named a card. (3 of Spades)? Then Paul went through the deck and showed Johnny the names of different women/celebrities that he knew and were on his show. Paul even showed Johnny the names of his 3 X wives. When Paul turned over the 3 of spades? It had JOHNNY CARSON written on the back. Aand Paul said: "Heres Johnny" I think it's an Ed Marlo inspired trick. Those of you that have seen Paul Gertner have seen Paul do this with jumbo cards too. BTW Clelbrity Deck looks great. When it comes to US, I'll pick one up.

Quote: The reason you are using cheap playing cards (protea) is because you have written all over the backs. That is the excuse I use and I have never been questioned. I use protea all the time, and let the specs handle them, and have never caused suspicion.

The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

Comes to USA meaning the Celeb Deck.
I don't know if Gertner teaches his. But I've done it for years. When I wouold go on a magic interview I would customize the card with the name of the company on it. Doug will PM you some more info.

I have the Celebrity Deck from Alakazam and it is a great effect to do one on one,or table hopping. It does utilize an old principle but that does not detract from the effect or make it simple to figure out by lay people. I always get great reactions with this effect. From the celebrity viewpoint you can really milk this effect. Since you write which celebrities you want on the cards, you can choose Actors/actresses, or even sports figures. With all that is in the news about athletes it can provide great banter to build up the effect for a dramatic revelation. You can also have the revealed card to have your contact information on the back of it, which allows for a great souvenir to be left with your spectator for future business. Whenever the Oscars or Emmy's are near, or a new blockbuster movie is about to debut these will give a great tie in to go into the effect.

Can this be done stand up, in the hands, without a table?
oh, and I guess that "your name" can be the "celebrity" that's is on the chosen card? thanks matt |
