Am I the only one that finds it strange that in magic we pre-order things before a review or even seeing the thing. I don't think we do that with any other object in that price range.
I mean an unknown guy can literally sell out by declaring his product limited before any reliable reviews come in... Strange...at least I think so... |

I don't ever buy anything without seeing it and working out the method if necessary.

Often the description is a deceptive as the effect.

I try and view a demo of it. No demo no purchase. I never go by the description. To risky as there is a lot of hype to it.

I used to! Now I order after I get a review from friends in the Café. That is just part of the adolecence stage in magic. Magicians get wiser too!

Of course the actual effect is the most important thing, but I do like to know the method before I get anything. This has a bearing on the angles, the reset, when and where it can be performed. You generally won't get that information, in a negative sense, from a description.
They're very willing to say instant reset, angle proof or everything can be examined, but what they never say is tedious reset, poor angles, or unexaminable. You can generally only make a good judgement on these issues and whether the effect is suitable for your act/conditions if you know exactly how the effect is performed. Always glean the method before you buy. |

We've already seen 5 books from Rowling, already know what she can deliver, and already care to see what happens next with the characters. What if you read a description that hyped Harry Potter, and you'd never heard of him or Rowling before? Would you pre-order a book, 4 months before it comes out, about which you know nothing but a few sentences of hype? (I think that would be more analagous to the "buying a trick unseen" situation that's being discussed here.) Geoff

In this day with the internet, video demos, and the good people here at the Café', there's no reason to order "blindly". I look for demos and testimonials on everything I'am interested in. Learning magic in the 70s (as I did) with no video or anything else, I was burned by mail order SEVERAL times for hundreds of dollars. In this day & age theres no reason for that. Read ads carefully, what isn't said in an ad is just as important as what is. But above all, ask questions here at the Café'. IMHO we are the best resource we have!

I put together a website for a local magic store. While waiting for the owner to provide me with PRODUCTS and PRICES, I decided to put "something" on the page so it wasn't blank. I made an animated GIF of a levitation and called it the "Levitator 4000". I put a price of $695.00 and "Limited Quantities". Within a week, we had 5 orders, and 87 inquiries for more details!! The product didn't even exist. So I agree with your post. View PIC HERE
I also find it strange that in magic you never know what you bought until you buy it, and no refunds or exchanges. No other business can do that. |

Hey Muzicman, does the Levitator 4000 comes only with the woman dressed in red, or there are another dress colors?
