Okay, I love the effect Presto Printo more than I love most of my family members. However, I notice the ending fizzles a little bit. I think an effect with this much eye-candy in it should have an ending that smacks you like a surly prison gaurd during a cell block riot.
What do you guys suggest? What could give this ending a good healthy shot of vitamin WOW? Thanks in advance... -Reis |

Reis,
Right down my alley bro. I had the same thinking as you when I first got Presto Printo, so I went to Cards By Martin and I ordered a blank backed reverse image 10S. So it looks like a black tiger 10S, white pips and black face with a blank back. I call this the Negative Card. I do the regular Presto Printo routine and I end with the last card (Negative Card) and I say, "With all these really awesome examples of photo-cards, we're missing one more thing, the negative". With that I 'apply' the 10S to the face of the face down blank back and I pass the card thru my hands and do a push thru my fist and a negative 10S appears and I swear I haven't gotten better reactions with Presto Printo. One thing is it has contrast, it stands out and goes very well with the theme of special photo film cards, etc. Another thing is it looks totally impossible yet there it is. I did this for my graduation ball and it was the talk for the next week or so. Hope this helps bro, take care, Logan

Good idea Logan. While reading your description this tag line came to mind. This would be a good line to say RIGHT before the last card.
"Once, someone said 'That's like trick photography!'. I looked at him and said "Your right... and here's the negative." Cheers, Wes |

I can already see the solid reactions from the specs. Guess I need to split a couple of cards this afternoon! I really like the push through idea. That's always been a favorite move for me and I think this is just the place for it. Is the card you're using made well? Does the black edge show a little? I'll toy with it and see how it comes out. Anyway, thanks for coming through for me on this! I can't wait to give it a try. Thanks again, Reis Quote:

Hi fellas,
Glad you liked it Reis, I've been keeping it to myself for a while now. The cards I got (ordered 2) came to me in a very tight vice-like cardboard envelope so it wouldn't bend or warp during shipping. Cards by Martin did a fantastic job I must say, I bought the cards 2 years ago and they're still good! The black edge doesn't show when the card is laid face down but a word of warning Reis (and anyone who wants to try this out), it is advised that you change your handling once you apply this because the black face will flash if not handled properly. I had to come up with a different handling so it fits in nicely and nothing flashes - so just be forewarned, but seriously, it's worth the effort. Reis, I highly recommend you order it from Cards By Martin, the quality is superb! Mind you, the face of the negative card does not have the same texture as regular Bicycle cards, that is there is no air-cushion finish, the blank side is but not the face. Just thought I'd let you know, it was never an issue nor problem for me, but just so you know what you're getting. Chris, a DVD? Nah, I'm sure many magicians around the world have better DVD's to purchase and store on their shelves. Paisa - yes, it was costly to order the card, can't remember the price, but it was costly, I think it was like US$2.50 per card or something, but it's worth it. Don't quote me on the price though! Wes - I love the kicker line! Thank you! Take care guys, Logan

There also the ending in which the back of the card matches the tie or shirt you are wearing.

Alright the following is just a goofy mental image I had but maybe someone could use it. I could certainly see a goofy comedy type character doing this..
Take a blank card and have a picture of you flexing in the mirror.... (acting embaressed) "How did that get in there!" or in a hawiian shirt on vacation."Opps, I think some of my vacation shots must have ended up on that roll!" -Chris

I use a specially printed card marketed by Daryl called "Shattered" or something like that. It is basically just a ten of spades that has been printed to look like it has been shattered. You can't treat it like the other cards in the routine, that is it doesn't have a blank back. I usually perform the routine as explained and at the end I go back to the deck which has the Shattered card either on top or bottom of the deck depending on what I want to do.
There are a number of different directions you could go from here. I think there is more than one way to make the change to the Shattered card in the instructions. I'm sure you could all think of many yourself. (Shapeshifter change, snap change, double lift and simply have the spectator flick the Shattered card and reveal the change, etc. The main problem with this approach is the fact that you now have to add an extra card into the deck. This takes a trick that is very easy to transition into, because of the fact that all you have to do as far is a setup is locate the ten of spades in the deck you're using, and complicates things a bit. One of the things I love about this effect is that it is self contained in the fact that you can pretty much do it anytime in your show. You'll have to decide if it's worth the extra effort to add in the Shattered card. Caleb By the way, the price is right for the Shattered card. I think it sells for $5-$10.
Check out my Main Event project (DVD or Download).

Joshua Jay did a version of his presto pinto in Brazil that in the cards start in his wallet, then he starts the routine and the end is kicker: He takes a ten and press into the wallet, then reveal that the ten now has the image of the wallet in the back, and he takes other ten and press to the other hand and a stick hand image is in the back!

Good idea, Caleb! I actually have the Shttered card and have used it often on its own. I never even thought about the fact that they are both the 10 of spades! I think I need to toy with that... thanks again!

Cjmagicman already beat me to the suggestion. It occured to me quite some time ago that Daryl's Shattered Card could be used in the Presto Printo routine.
You just need to split the Shattered Card and any other blank card in order to create a Shattered 10S that has a blank back. Funny how both effects by Daryl happen to use the 10S (Daryl must have an affinity for that particular card). While we are all talking about this effect (which we all must love) and various ending ideas for it, allow me to ask the following: What other ideas have you come up with (as far as alternate things to "print")? Of course, your tie, close up pad, and part of the card box have all been mentioned in Daryl's instructions (as well as others here in the forum), but I'm curious what else has been conceived and more importantly exactly HOW you made up the special card(s) to achieve your desired result. I came up with the idea of partially printing a dollar bill (which is lying on the table from a previous routine) on the last card. Of course the image would need to be a reversed image (just like the 1st 10S printed during the main routine). I love the idea, but have no clue as to the best way to actually create this card (of course, it would be in color as well). Any ideas? Cheers, Wes |

Chris Stolz - nice idea dude! Though I don't think that'll fit my presentation
Caleb - very nice, I like! But I think it'll be stronger if it had a blank back as Wes was indicating. Time to split! Wes - I think this is the best idea, seriously! Especially since you can use an item from a previous trick! How to go about doing it? Well, you could scan the bill, reverse the image and print it on some photo-paper (I suggest matte finish), then you cut out a portion of the paper with the same dimensions as a card face - the amount of 'bill' you want on that cut out portion depends on where you cut it. You could have just the presidents face, or have it diagonal or even vertical! Up to you, but I think the horizontal idea would be best, with just the president's face and a little be extra. I've done this kind of printing before, make sure you get a good printer (bubble jet is fine just make sure you set the quality settings to 'high' or 'photo-quality') and some smooth matte finish photo paper. Oh, and a steady and accurate cutting hand All the best with your idea dude! Take care, Logan

I wonder if cardbymartin would make anyone a custom card? Say where the kicker would be just placing it on your hand palm up or palm done to reveal your palm of if you wear one a wedding ring. Just thinking out loud.

Reis,
I can't view the image dude! Paisa, you can e-mail Cards By Martin and ask, he's an extremely nice fella! I don't know how you'll get the image on but frankly you can make it yourself. All you need is a scanner and printer...oh and matte finish photo paper, a pair of scissors and glue. :)
