I really like to do the Blow Up Hot Water Bottle (rubber) effect. Like Todd Robbin does. Please anyone know where I can get the trick or any dealer sells it?? Or is that kind of impromptu??
Thanks

My understanding of this is that it is real and extremely dangerous. I'm guessing there is a technique and not a trick to this (as is true with most sideshow stuff).I took a workshop taught by Todd and the two things he would not teach were eating light bulbs/glass and blowing up the hot water bottle.

You might want to try the area dealing with sideshow stunts, as this is the Bizarre Magick area:

This is an old strongman trick, you may have some luck talking to some body-builders, you used to see them do it all the time many years ago.

good luck...........

This was popularlized by Franco Columbu, friend and training partner of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1970s. He had terrifically poweful lungs to be able to do this stunt, and it was indeed real. It is also incredibly dangerous, because if you release the tension for a split second, the air can instantly rush back in and burst both your lungs simultaneously.
I never heard of Arnold trying this, nor Lou Ferringo or hardly any of the other famous bodybuilders of the era.
ssucahyo, don't try it unless you're willing to put in years of heavy physical training, and you're willing to die for your art.

Actually it's much older than that. You can see old 60's bodybuilders do this stunt.
It's very dangerous, you need a really strong diaphragm muscle.

You mentioned eating glass, let me tell you, it is really bad for your teeth. I used to eat glass after reading Mantra and after several years had some serious molar problems. Glass just scrapes enamel right off your teeth. DON'T DO IT!!!

If you have a problem while performing this stunt, the blowback into your lungs can cause something divers and doctors call a pulmonary embolism. Fatality rate from one of these is about 90%.

Basically, what it amounts to is one or both of your lungs over inflate and explode like a cheap balloon.

It's not pretty.

I guess the bottom line for this is to make your fees high enough to pay for Dr. bills and/or death expenses...
It is NOT a trick!

I used to have a gag that I would do at Tannen's magic shop. I would walk in, go up to a friend behind the counter and ask if they had gotten a new shipment in of gaffed hot water bottles, candy light bulbs and collapsible nails. He would shake his head and say, "next week."

Heck, at my age, I have trouble blowing out all the birthday candles on the cake. Forget the water bottle trick. Now an colostomy bag...that might be doable...as long as it was empty.
