I attended the Dealers tables at the Columbus Magifest a couple of weeks back, and I saw a lot of rubberband work going on there. One guy had a dvd with his rubberband routine where a ring kept appearing on the rubberband. I do not remember the dealer's name, but I am sure there are many dvd's out there with a 'ring on rubber band' routine. Any recommendations? I need good presentations that are clearly presented, and not too technical. Sort of "Name-of-effect DVD for Dummies", if you know what I mean. Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I second Pinnacle. It's a great DVD and a great impromptu effect.

I third that, this is probably the effect you saw it's available

here:

and
http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=625 (watch demo here)
and probably many other places.

Great effect, but like all others you will have to practice.

Vince Mendoza's "rhing thing", and Vinny Marini's version of Chris Kenner's "missing link" do the rubber band ring trick, but with an amazing one handed display finish. They are Z-best.
my opinion

Pinnacle is a nice looking routine, but the explanation provided on the dvd is not very clear. In addition to the unclear explanation, the camera angles are bad. While the production quality of the Pinnacle dvd (menus, lighting, etc.) are ok, it is clear that the producers of the dvd are new to magic dvds (or if not new, simply bad at making them).

Cheers,

Tiki

With Pinnacle it's only the second phase which is a bit confusing at first, if you watch it a few times you get it eventually. Other than that the whole routine is fairly easy. A good impromptu trick.

Vinny,

I saw in another post - I tink - you mentioning your and Mendoza's independently created one hand display (ring on band). In the Russ DVD, Pinnacle, he also has a one handed display of the ring on the band. Are his, your and Mendoza's version the same or is there a difference?

I was twiddling around with the rubber band and ring today, and figured a way to show a linked ring with thumb and finger only, but it doesn't look good close up.

I saw the Rhing Thing video posted by Mendoza, but it's hard to tell from the camera resolution. How does it look close-up, or do you have to select a particular type of rubber band for it to look convincing?

I don't recall a one-handed display at all in pinnacle. I've only figured out one way that looks a bit funny close up.

I like to do the first half of pinnacle with the Mendoza ring thing finish a truly devistating combination, and Vinny's broken bracelet is another knock out trick. They all stem from one devistating move. There is no comparison Vinny, and Vince are in a class by them selves true inovators. Ever since I met Vinny, and Vince at the Café I go no where with out a wrist full of rubber bands.
Thank you Vinny & Vince

Can someone tell me how good this is close up.

My idea of how an ungimmicked ring could get threaded on a ungimmicked rubber band would require, at the least, the band to be twisted & held taught, and when I try doing it, the least little slip, and the method seems obvious.

I'm not asking for the method, just how realistic does it look from about 7 inches away.

Thanks
John
