Hey Bob,
I am only 41 years old but I am a MAJOR Old Time Radio buff! “Blackstone The Magic Detective” was a radio program, in the 50's featuring that ACTUAL Harry Blackstone Sr. playing the part of a Magic Detective. He solved crimes which were usually wrapped around some magic principle and then taught everybody an ACTUAL MAGIC TRICK during a mid-program intermission!...hmmmm...was Harry actaully the first public EXPOSURIST?!! Heck no! He taught some fun simple tricks that were actually pretty darn cool. I have every episode in an MP3 format. You may find the entire series on Ebay, at any given time, by simply doing a search with the title. Thanks for bringing up the topic Chance Wolf

No, Radio.
That's the thing like TV, but wit5hout the picture. When I was a kid families sat around it all night to listen to shown. Blackstone tought a trick at the end of each detective story. Bob Chance: I was "pening" a post when you posted yours. I also have a full set of the programs in MP3 format, but I also remember the show. There is a great saite "Radio Lady" that sells hundreds of old radio show at a good price. She is very nice to deal with. Bob |

Bob,
Yup, the Radio Lady is great. I have purchased hundreds of hours of OTR episodes from her. Great deals and great listening. The OTR episodes are fantastic for excercising the creative imagination as it is up to you to envision all the charactors and scenerios taking place. It's nice to take a break from the TV and actually do some thinking for yourself Take care Chnce

Yep! I remember it and actually Chuck Shaden plays an episode now and then on WDCB radio (College of DuPage, IL) http://www.wdcb.org if I recall correctly, on his radio show "Those Were The Days" on saturdays, from 1PM to 5PM central time.
Also, magicradio plays episodes on a pretty regular basis as well. And, as an aside, my last movie went directly to audio... Lee Darrow, C.H.

Magicbrodcast.com plays them. I bought the MP3 with all of the illusions at the end. Pretty cool. I didn't get to hear the programs in "Real Time"....in the 50's.

http://www.rusc.com For you old time radio buffs, it's great. Small membership fee, but well worth it. Has a lot of blackstone material.

I have downloaded many episodes in the past. Try Kazaa or Limewire.
How many episodes were produced? |

I got 29 on the set that Radio Lady sent me. Each program has a magic trick at the end of the show. Bob |

I just spent the whole day, in my shop, listening to this series. There are some pretty cool tricks revealed. Mostly Bar type tricks and scientific principles but still very fun. Blackstone had one heck of a great voice. It is a great thing to have him imortalized in an MP3 file...now that's some magic!

I bought the mp3 cd a while back and it is fun to listen to, although some of the episodes are not as clear as others.
I also bought the Chandu series on cd (mp3) and the quality is great. |

I love the Blackstone the Magic Detective series.
Magic Broadcast airs 1 or 2 of them, I love listening to them. They also air a few other old magic radio shows. http://www.magicbroadcast.com |
