Say, I would sure like to hear some comments and suggestions on great effects that use chewing gum!
I don't use tobbaco in any form (acapnotic), so I don't carry cancer sticks around with me normally. But I always have gum, either in my pockets or in my jaws in motion, and I was thinking today how appealing tricks with gum could be. It's SO innocent! And everyone can relate to it. I believe it has great natural appeal to our spectators, and would like to hear what effects you use to really "knock 'em dead" using good old chewing gum!

There is an application for the use of a certain brand of gum as Hypnoheat.

There is a GREAT torn and restored chewing gum wrapper in one of Harry Lorayne's early books. It has been much overlooked, but it is a killer routine. It is completely impromptu; just take (or even borrow) a stick of gum and you are ready. It's worth looking up.

Thre is a great trick out called sticky stuation. Its great and I use it all the time. Basically, you put a piece of gum in your mouth, chew it up, then remember you didn't offer any to your audience but the one you just ate. So you take the now chewed up ball of gum from your mouth and offer it around. Of course everyone turns away in disgust, so you rub the ball and stretch it out. You now have a brand new dry stick of gum, just like before you put in in your mouth. So you offer out the stick of gum, but people still aren't convinced, so you rub it again and it is now back in its wrapper, BRAND NEW. At this point you can hand it out for the spectator to eat, but you don't have to. At each stage you hand can be shown empty to show you're not just adding the extra parts if some of you thoght it was simple sleight of hand.

Daff, Sticky Situation by Andy Leviss all the way. Sooooo easy, extremely startling to the lay audience, I carry it with me everywhere I don't even pretend to chew gum.
Just reach for wherever you would normally find ABC gum show it to them (this in itself gets a look) then make the magic happen. Hint: when showing the ABC gum keep your hand moving slightly (pun intended) so they can't get a good bead on it.

This effect was printed in a magic mag as well as on one of Dan Harlan's tapes. pack of stick gum is sawn in half. Half pieces of gum are restored in your hands. Not a bad little close up trick.

Daffy,
For stand up, you should get the ABC Recombobulator by Wolf's Magic. http://www.wolfsmagic.com You get to do all the gum jokes and end with with a bucket full of gumballs! There is also a bubble gum mouth coil that is pretty cool, but I do not know who carries it. Anybody? Arthur Atsma |

There's also Wrap It Up by Jay Sankey, but I hear that's not too good. Anyone have this?

About 15 years ago, I had seen Sankey's "Wrap It Up". Effect: You are chewing gum, pull the wad from your mouth, excusing yourself for being rude chewing gum, place the wad in an open BAZOOKA gum wrapper, toss it in the air and it restores itself to a wrapped new piece of BAZOOKA gum. This was a KILLER effect the first time I had seen it!
I must disagree with the post above. You must remember that an effect looses it's "First Impression" when we know what is coming, as magicians. But when you see this effect unkowing, as I did, it is unbelievably cool. Highly recommended for visual magic at its best...and easy to do. There is a demo on Penguins website Chance Looks like they switched to "Double Bubble" brand.

Hi there,
There's an effect called 'Bubble DeGummed' that goes with the Raven 2. The effect is you take out the chewed gum from your mouth and place it into its wrapper, clearly show it in your open hand, then wave your other hand over it (good old raven style)...Instantly its restored back as it were when opening it. |
