Hey guys;
I have already done a search of this and read what was posted, but was unable to find a full review that gave me enough info. I am currently thinking of having one made, could somebody who has used one please post a review? Thanks. Magically yours, MAtt Kielbiski quick Change Artist |

Matt,
Are you seeking a review on a builder, or looking for people who have experience performing it? --- Guy |

I am looking for reviews of the actual prop. From people with experience with it.

I used to have a One Inch Hole and the reason I don't anymore is b/c I didn't like it, it was hard to make it good, and it just wasnt' that great. I think there are better things out there, but I could be wrong b/c I know there are some that will disagree with me. I just know that we spent a TON of time rehearsing it, did it in one show and sold it, the pay off for all the hard work wasn't worth it. We could have spent that time on something else and it would have been great.

A similar effect can be achieved on the cheap. When I first saw the props in a Stevens catalog, it reminded me of "Girl Through Needle's Eye" from "This Is Magic......That Is Magic! " by Loring Campbell, published by Abbott's.

I've performed it also. For what kind of review are you looking?
We did not try to rush it or turn it into a 2 minute music and dance production. We presented it as an impossible physical puzzle type illusion, and started with the classic challenge where I invited the audience to consider how I might walk through a hole cut in a regular size playing card. I quickly did the zig-zag accordian opening cut, walking through, and leading to the one inch hole illusion. I invited the spectators to think critically on what was about to happen, and pointed out the added impossibilty of the hole being fixed in size and shape by the steel disk (the entry plate for the rope.) Yet as impossible as it seems, I discovered a manner in which my assistant could contort the human form in such a way as to fit through the hole. At every step, we invited the audience to participate with their logical minds. It was well received, and we did get positive talk about it after the show (mostly an adult audience, btw.) The people who spoke to us about it were analyzing the possible solutions, and cancelling out the possible solutions in their own minds, wandering back and forth for an answer. It's a very reasonable state of mind for the spectators when presenting puzzle type illusions. Mind you, this presentation does not generate a gut level "Oh!" as a "poof, I've disappeared" might. I've already got pieces in my show that generate that response; the one inch hole illusion adds diversity and texture, and is offered to satisfy the portion of the audience interested in something a little more cerebral. YMMV. --- Guy |
