Hi everyone:
I am really really interested in T & R effect and would really like to have your advice on which one to purchase if my criteria were as follows: a) Piece by piece restoration b) Visual c) Restored card can be handed out as souvenir d) The ditching is not too difficult e) Ease of learning (not too difficult like Reformation) f) The creases can be "ironed" out to restore the card to its original state g) The card can be signed by spectators All opinions are appreciated. Btw, I have purchased both: a)Ripped and Restored; and b)Free Formation and have learnt "Ripped and Restored". I like this effect pretty much but noticed that it falls short on criteria f), as shown above. Recently I came to know about "Re-attached" and was very impressed by its review. Nonetheless, through discussions with other members on the forum, I noted that the spectator cannot sign on the card for this effect to be performed. Please correct me if I am wrong. I heard that Fusion would enable you to "iron out" the crease but I am not so sure if it would satisfy criteria a) to e) & g). Please let me know if it does satisfy Also I heard that in essence, Free Formation is very similar to Reformation in terms of the tearing and restoration. The bit wihch is different is on the signing part where both the spectators and the magician will sign on the card. Again pls correct me if I am wrong. Thank you once again. |

Do a search on the Café. A member has recently composed a list of most the T&R effects. It also includes information to the criteria that you have listed.

Thanks for the info.
By the way, is that area called "secret session"? If yes, I have tried to search for it but to no avail. Please guide me. Thanks |

I believe it is in the pick a card section. I'll do some research and let you know.

However, I should note that in this version, you iron out the creases and pull off the signature afterward. Then you can hand out the card to be examined. If you are looking to hand it out immediately after the restoration, with the signature still on it, then it does not meet c) without having to do a little more to the card. As a side note, Sean Fields (creator of Fusion) is soon going to be releasing Fusion 2 (FU2), a DVD that includes a new handling of Fusion, the original version, Flash Fusion (a flash restoration), and Color Fusion (in his words: "think Color Monte with a T&R kicker"). He frequently visits the Café, and I'm sure he would be glad to answer any further questions you have about Fusion or FU2. Good luck with your t/r hunting. Brandon |

Flash Restoration-Alexander de Cova.I don't know if this one was published anywhere else, other than in Magic magazine(October '95 p72).The effect was bought by David Copperfield,Paul Daniels and Juan Tamariz. The effect:a selected card is torn into pieces. One of the pieces is retained by the spectator. The deck is tabled and the torn piece stacked on the top.Waving the hand over it the pieces instantly restore. The piece retained obviously fits.Very easy to do.
Besides this Paul Harris' Ultimate Rip-off comes to mind. Andre |

Thanks for the info.
By the way, for Fusion, is it possible for me to vary the handling bit so that I could hand out the card for examination with the signature intact (whether the crease is or is not there is not important for me) Also, where could I but Seamless. I tried to search in google but to no avail. Thanks |

GUy Hollingworth's is definitley the best. It doesn't completely fit your criteria, but it is awesome and definitley worth looking at.

I do have Reformation but it is from Guy's Book. The instructions are VERY lengthy. I always forget the preceding section while reading the current section -I mean, in terms of moves. Also each sentence has to be throughly understood and this has given me a lot of headache. I think this is due to its complexity that the instruction is so long....does anyone know if there is any "summary" version of it? I know the probability is very little but was just curious.
I have also heard that Torn has one of the most amazing restoration. eg. the first restoration which does not require "cover up" by fingers. Would you guys consider this as more visual than reformation as reformation needs fingers to cover up for a short while before the first piece is restored. Also, I noticed that at present, Torn is sold as VHS. Will DVD version be released soon? I don't have a video recorder and hence my question. Thanks |

Guy has a video of reformation but he is not producing anymore of it so it will be a little more difficult to find.
As for Torn, I'm not too familar with it but I heard that a DVD of it will be out soon. Sean Fields is also working on Fusion 2... FU2 is the official title I believe. Apparently it has multiple methods with an impromptu handling You can do a search on Seamless here and you'll find a lot of information. The creator stopped selling it for a while but will be re-releasing it soon. |
