Hello,
I've found a mini version of the Square Circle, is it useful? OR it is limited by its size? Can you give me a brief review? Thanks, Hirase The link of it: http://themagicwarehouse.com/closeup9.html#mm2793 Hirase

I'm not sure why anyone would want a mini-Square Circle, since it is not really suitable for a close-up effect, in my opinion. And as you have already implied, the size of the device also limits the size of the load. So it doesn't seem to me that would be all that useful. Because it relies upon Black Art principles, it's really a stage effect, although it could be used in a "parlor" or living room setting if you were careful about the lighting and the audience wasn't too close.
If you are looking for a production item to use in a smaller setting (but still not close-up), take a look at the Temple Screen. It folds flat for packing, can be performed without lighting considerations, and produces a very large load. You just need to watch your angles a bit. SETH

Better yet Hirase... why not use a TT and produce silk, etc from small flattened box previously in your pocket?

...or combine the mini-square circle with a tt for a second load? Or use the "circle" for a color change etc.> make a routine just for fun.

I got it and the viewer can see the BA tube. It really is useless other than for a nicknack.

I'm glad that someone who bought it could confirm my initial reaction to the "mini" square circle. I believe a "mini" temple screen is also being marketed -- another bad idea.
On the other hand, I wouldn't have thought that the Linking Rings could be done close up -- until I saw Shoot Ogawa perform. So it is possible that some stage effects would play well in a closeup situation. You just need to make the right picks! SETH

I think the reason for the "Mini Version" is only that you don't need the space you need to have for the "Big Seize Version". But to be honest, this is a STAGE EFFECT, so why do I need a "Mini Version"???

I think these mini items are made for a collection not for use. To be honest, I think the Square Circle is one of the worst tricks ever invented... do you really think it fools anyone?

I would have to disagree there. I have a number of versions of the square circle and they get a fantastic reaction everytime they're used. Maybe the problem is that they are so common amongst us magicians that we don't realise their potential anymore. In my view, the answer is to spice them up with new varients and ideas. I agree with the comments about the pocket version though, they're just a novelty without much practical use.

I think a square circle can be very deceptive, if used properly and it is well designed. It certainly fooled me when I saw one used in a magic show, when I was a kid.
The "mini" is only good as a collector's item. It should never be used in a performance. |

I think for children it´s a very good effect. I think about using one in my show in June. Maybe I can use it to produce all the stuff that I need for my other effect - like a "running gag".

I've seen two versions of this effect and have yet to find a good one myself. It would be tough to use even for close up because of angles, I would think. Anyone overcome this? I saw the dealer try and use it and it was difficult to pull off.
At the same time, there is potential for it.. In my junk drawer...yup...that's right. I felt compeled to write this, even though the little devil on my shoulder isn't as visible as Pete's. |
