A quote comes to mind..."Acer...rymthes with Hacker!" Mel Stover
I knew Mel from my years in Winnipeg....a terrific mind for magic and mental mayhem. Can you share a Stover experience with us? |

Hi John,
This is hardly a comical story, but I remember being at a magic convention in the U.S. with Mel a few years before he died and seeing him driving his cart up to the restaurant in the lobby of the hotel. The hostess, seeing a "frail old man," spoke to him like he was seven years old, and it didn't matter what he said or how he said it, the girl just kept speaking to him in that same, condescending tone. I was frustrated watching it from three tables away - I honestly don't know how Mel kept himself from just mowing her down with the cart. But it made me realize how many people at that time and place were completely unware of the genius and sheer life-force that was trapped inside his aged body. |
