Anyone seen this or have use this.i just wondering if what you think about it.If you are wondering what it is here a description.
Audience member or assistant lays on a bed, supported by two uprights. The uprights are removed and so is the bed, leaving the lady suspended in mid-air. Hoops are passed over her to show there is no connection to any secret support. Yes, it's the super-X principle, but as improved by Jack Gwynne and perfected by Jim Sommers...makes it super-practical, super-portable and super-deceptive! Perform surrounded. Walk away at any time. One man operation Set up in 1 minute. Strike in less. No nuts or bolts. Weighs less than 55 lbs. Easily supports 200 lbs. Only 5 pieces to fold on it's own roller platform thanks mike |

I just picked up a used one from a Café member in NY and would like to add my comments to the discussion.
I weigh about 160 and I can lie on this without wobbling. If I move around it will wobble, but I plan to use it with children who are lighter. It's not suitable for a professional stage act, but it's light weight and ability to pack flat will make it easy to bring to shows. I also have the Chair Suspension and the Flying Carpet. I haven't been using the Flying Carpet because it won't fit in my car ( a Geo Metro) but I had no trouble getting the Walk Away Suspension in. If my opinion changes after some shows I'll let you know. Oliver |

I have been using one for about five years. You can see it in my avatar.
The best thing about it is that it all breaks down for easy transportation. For $400 it is quite good. I use it to float my daughter so there is only a little wobble as she gets on and off. I have found a few ways to compensate for this. If you are a touring pro, this is not for you. If you are a weekend warrior trying to add an illusion to your stage show this is great. Add a Blaney Great White Hoop, a fog machine and it can be a great illusion. If you are expecting a Blaney Suspension for $400, you will be disppointed. Mike |

The more I look at my walk -away the more it upsets me ...The person who designed it could have put the gimmick on the floor and not on the bottom platform... I think the mak flying carpet is made better and is more deceptive because the gimmick is on the floor . The carpet also.... holds more weight .

Anymore naysayer's? What is really up with this effect? Does it wiggle too much, support a butterfly, whats the deal? I wanna hear some real feedback on this one! Why doesn't Chance Wolf make one that is really good and supportive?

If I use it for my ventriloquist dummy it won't wiggle ....but if I put my 3and a half year old son on it .....it starts to wobble a bit .. any more weight and look out ....The "suppors" that hold up the board are made of a plastic/cardboard material and the look so flimsy that the weight of the board could be barely held up by them.... and like I said the gimick placement is in the wrong spot and ruins the illusion .... if you have assistants ....they could move away the cheap supports and you could hide the gimick with your B- - -Anymore questions please e mail me before you buy this . Good presentation will not save this one Thanks for your time .....CARDONE

My god I can't believe it's that bad! I have Sommers chair suspension and it is first rate and has lasted quite awhile! It's too bad to hear the x-lev is so bad...I'm glad I never bought it.
I wish Jim Sommers would come on here and give his point of veiw on the subject. johnny

Actually, it's not by Jim Sommers and Klamm. It's made Jim Sommers and sold by Klamm. It's a knockoff of a Harbin suspension, but with Jim Sommers, why would we not be surprised?
The original, by Robert Harbin, was made of steel, not aluminum, and would hold a real person. The one Klamm is selling is a piece of junk. I had the Harbin book, and used the plans to make the suspension I used at the Texas Renaissance Festival and Scarborough Faire for some 16 years. I modified it heavily, because I felt it was too low and it wasn't stable enough. Mine was made of steel. It supports 250 pounds without difficulty. I used it along with the Great White Hoop. If you want to do this one, get the correct plans and build it sturdily. It will never let you down.

Bill,
How much does your version weigh? Is it portable at all or better suited for a long run at one venue? Rob |

I post the same question from time to time hoping some talented builder will think about it:
Why hasn't anyone come up with a mid priced Walk-away X? Whenever people on the Café talk about this effect it's always the same thing. They want better quality than offered by the Sommers version but they don't want to pay $3,500 for the Blaney version. If anyone comes up with something decent that could sell for around $1500, I think they would sell a ton of them. Mike |

I don't have a link. I do not believe that it is for sale anywhere. You'll have to see it in his book.

A friend had a "Hot Air" built, person who made it did a great job. - It's very deceptive and didn't cost a fortune to make....
