Sankey's version of CMH uses bands that are broken and tied (it includes a "giveaway" that requires the knots).

My problem is when I break and tie a band, it twists up like a pretzel instead of lying flat like a dignified rubber band. I know it's due to the twist put in when tying, and I've tried to put in a "pre-twist" before tying to counteract that, but so far I haven't hit the right formula.

Any ideas on how to tie a broken band so there is no twist to make it unruly?

1. cut it with scissors

2. lay it flat on a table and smooth it out and bring the two ends up

Do you have to do this in front of spectator's?

Use a candle and melt the ends back together...

No, you WANT the knots to show...that's the whole point. It's just the bands always end up twisted when you pull the knots tight.

The amount of latex in the rubberband matters. Try Office Depot. (They may have to order the good ones.)

Jay Sankey showed this at his lecture in blackpool this year and I too have the same problem.
