In about three weeks I'll be giving a talk at the local chapter of Purchasing Managers. The topic is Cycle Counting for Inventory Accuracy. Yeah, I know, really exciting. Hey to buyers and purchasing people, these are hot sexy phrases. Anyway, I'm using the cups and balls as a representation of the problems with missing, excess, misplaced, or just plain jumbled inventory. I'll be talking about Company X and how they don't use Cycle Counting to keep their inventory accurate. They discover (under the cups) inventory they didn't know they had. When they need critical parts and go to the shelf (cup)for parts, it's empty. You get the idea I think. I'm using standard cork balls, but the final load is miniture sports balls of different types. The final load is presented as big problems in inventory inaccuracies found by the accounting auditors.

the routine is supposed to be only about three minutes or so and from there I'll do my regular speech on the topic. I think this is a differnt approach for the use of the cups and balls. What do you folks think?

You're much more creative thatn I am. I have been trying to think of alternate patterns for some time. I won't use this, it is inapropriate for my character, but I think you put me onto a new track. Excellent Idea!!

Matthias, and thanks for the creativity

I think it's a great idea...and very appropriate for getting your message across. I'll bet the group will get quite a kick out of your presentation.

And to think... Iam still trying to remember the classic...

Rub-a-dub-dub three men in three tubs went sailing out to sea...
In tub number one...
In tub number two...
And also in tub number three...

Great thoughts!

This is an excellent example of how to use the classics to illustrate something besides how clever you are. Good show!
