I still vividly remember the first time I truly experienced, "firsthand", what I considered magic.
Takes place in a bar in southern Spain (Malaga), in late summer. Walkaround magician approaches a friend who had removed his shirt earlier in the night. Magician takes his shirt and places it over his cupped hand.....and proceeds to perform the disappearing cigarette routine utilizing his shirt. I could only imagine the look on our faces when he opened up his hand and the shirt was unharmed...... That was about seven years ago, and it still sticks in my mind. Though a VERY simple effect to perform by most standards, the effect was immediate and inexplicable. Please share your similar experiences. Dave |

In college, a friend performed a paul Harris trick. It was an ambitious card routine where the whole deck ended up being a solid block.

I can remember my very first magic show that came to my school. Believe it or not, I was just six years of age. The show was fantastic! Still to this day I can remember the magician performing: Hip.Hop.Rabbits, Miser's Dream and my favorite,(which by the way, I use in my show to this very day...and it always gets a great reaction), the Lotto Bowl. Wow, seems like yesterday but then again, that was only forty-nine short years ago.

When I was about 3 or 4, my dad made the rubber tag from my levi's disappear and reappear inside my mouth. I can remember it like it was yesterday! That may very well be the moment that got me hooked on magic.
Once I started studying and I knew a little slieght of hand, Paul Harris made me feel like a kid again when I saw him perform, "Mondo Nifty Invisible Palm Aces." |

It was about 20 years ago when I saw Romaine perform close-up magic for the first time. He did some classic Slydini stuff (having studied under him I believe). He did a coins through table that was unbelievable. That's when I realised what Magic was supposed to be like.

I remember a magic show at my school when I was about 6 or 7. They made the head of a friend of mine disappear, and two students pulled a rope through the waist of the Magician.
The one trick that really stuck in my mind for years however was when I was maybe 11 or 12, I was in a hospital and a visitor to another patient rolled up his sleeves, took out a hanky, pushed it into his fist and then slowly opened his fist to show that it was gone. It was a few years before I got into magic enough to learn how that hanky vanished, but whenever I do it, especially for kids I think back to the absolute shock I felt when I saw it first. I did it in a bar one night and people behind me that I wasn't even showing it to gasped. One said "That's the most amazing thing I've ever seen". How cool is it to even for a short while be the most amazing thing that someone has ever seen. -MM |

I saw Richard Ross on TV in Paris Performing the Linking Rings when I was about 9
It was so amazing & beautiful to watch -He performed the links so slowly I was sure I would see how he did this-My nose was pushed right up against the TV screen-Never did work out how he could do that!! Doug Henning arrived not long after that & I was hooked! |

Silk vanish with a TT.
When I was quite young, I had a camp counselor who did the vanish/restoration for us every couple of weeks. Finally, at the end of camp, he exposed the method. Nevertheless, this was truly magical. I had the same feeling that MM described above: this was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. |

As bad as it is when I was younger, I loved when the magician had a box of crayons and then they vanish, and the audience then helps color the coloring book. but I would now say I have a great respect for anyone who can do good card manip now that stuff is really amazing
