I am thinking about starting to table hop at parties (party strolling) and I would like to hear how many tricks I need to know and which ones I should learn.

For parties and tables, you would definetely be giving a look for effects that:
1. Can be done in the hands 2. Have a immediate or very fast reset 3. Visually strong Those are just a few factors to keep in mind. If you are asking for what specific effects, then that would depend a lot more on what is your particular style/persona? A few small ideas might be things like Three Ropes and a Baby (rope routine by richard sanders); a good sponge ball routine(check out Scott's Peanut butter and jelly sometime); and once the audience gets comfortable with you, then perhaps a strong card effect. The number of effects per group or table really varies from one place to another, depending on the number of people attending, length of time to perform overall etc... Three effects seems to be a average number, not too few and it leaves them wanting more Hope that helps

Hi,
I woul like to start tapple hopping too but don't know where to start. I only perform card tricks (I am learning other stuff but don't feel to confident with it at this point). I have succesfully practiced street magic for 3 yers and at this point I perform 4 days a week average to about 50 people per day. So I don't know much, but the reaction I get from a deck of card seem satisfying enough to get started professionally. To the point, do you guys think that knowing only card routines can be good enough to please people in a restaurant or bar on a professional basis? Any good ressources to get started?

Attitude,
You may be going at this backwards! You should have an act FIRST and then decide to try table hopping or strolling. The tricks are a very small part of what you are talking about; the main thing is "people skills" and that's something that you have to learn on your own. Remember -- you are there to entertain your audience, not show them how skillful you are. |

Some of the routines that I do strolling are:
Sponge Balls Ring and String Sun and Moon routine Mismade Bill (my handling) Think-A-Card (preceeded by a couple of peeked card revelations) Wilson's "IT" Mirror Reverse Pen Thru Bill Burger's Psychic Sense Mental Yarn (with some of my modifications) Andrew's Blackjack and a few others. I'm prepared to do a long set, but I rarely perform for more than 8 minutes at a table, usually less than 4 minutes. |

Lately I've been doing
Pin Demonium Crazymans handcuffs (I learned from a Slydini booklet and I'm so glad) Sponge Balls Silk & TT Cards Spellbound 2-in-the-hand I've think that an easy thing to start with has a beginner is a 2-in-the-hand routine with a spongeball production at the end. You snap your fingers and the ball is magically produced from the other hand. Laymen think this is very magical even though your hand was just in your pocket a second ago grabbing it. Then proceed with a spongeball routine.

It depends how long you will stay there.
