He's well known in the UK. I believe he also performs in France (in French).

I saw Eddie on TV about six months ago and said to myself, "What is this guy". He ranked right up there with Emo Phillips.

That is the problem, we here in the US can't figure out this guy's humor.

I can't tell whether you mean you liked or didn't like either of these guys. I thought Emo was really funny.

I happen to be a huge Izzard fan and find the man enormously funny.

Whilst in the States last year I introduced him to a few of my American friends who also found him hilarious.
Conversely, I know many people over here in the UK who simply can't stand him.
I suppose that there are those who just "don't get it" the world over.

Yes, Eddie Izzard is well-known in the UK. He avoids TV shows (although he has done one that I know of) preferring live performance. This probably means that he is not quite so well-known as other less-talented TV performers. I'm a fan.

Wasn't he also in in the film 'Mystery Men' ??

I have a friend who used to busk with him in England. He says as a busker he was awful, as a commedian he is GREAT!

I watched one of his shows the other night at my new girlfriend's house and she said my liking him was the acid test.

I still crack up everytime I hear his bit about magicians, "Hi how are you? Oh. **poof** a bunch of flowers."

Guy is great. I may have my cats stuffed with helium when they die.
