Just seen that Bill Goldman's new DVD set is now available to preorder from Bob Kohler and Hocus Pocus. Titled "Confessions of a Corporate Warrior" this looks like a must buy for any corporate performers. Considering Bill's reputation as one of the top performers in this field, this is going to be one of the most important releases in recent years. I've ordered mine, have you ?

I've bought a few items from Bill Goldman. Monkey in the Middle, Boomerang and One For the Money. I've been extremely pleased with all of them. His methods are diabolical and "real world."

I think the most important point here is that Bill Goldman is one of the top professionals in the world, and represents the standard we should all be trying to attain. When he decides to share his experiences and give advice, we should all listen.

His lecture was very entertaining, lasted over 1 1/2 hrs, did lots of card tricks,Boomerang, Monkey in the Middle, One for the Money, etc; told us a bit on his early days on how he got started in magic, and doing trade shows; he had some audience participate in his tricks. Overall it was one of the better lecture I have gone to.

Most will pass it up, but other magicians will see the value in this DVD set. I have a number of his items: Monkey In The Middle, Kona, Mental Yarn, One For The Money (DVD), some of the Bar & Grill issues. All are excellent! I've seen him lecture twice and you'll want to attend his lecture if you ever get the chance. |

I am torn with this one. Monkey in the Middle is great. I bought it like 13 years ago, and it is an excellent effect that can be used in various ways. I wasn't impressed with One for the Money. There are stronger card effects. Now, that isn't to say that someone isn't using it to get great success, I just think there are better effects of with similar plots.

There are effects on this DVD, but it is primarily about working the corporate scene.

Ok….here’s the stuff.
I must give this DVD a mixed review. Production values are low. More specifically, the editing. Things like a camera man’s phone ringing, or useless blather that simply did not need to be on the DVD. Sometimes one would get the feeling as if this were some big joke and we don’t really care how good this is…we’ll make money anyway. It was a feeling or attitude that sometimes came across. It just did not have that professional feel. This is not what I expect from a Bob Kohler project. Additionally, there was no script, nothing to keep the discussion on track. This meant meaningless side bars that went no where. Also I am not sure what the purpose of the other gentleman on the DVD were there for. Two of them never said anything (at least that I can recall) during the entire DVD. This really came across as “Hey, let’s just set up a camera and talk” project. Tricks: There are some routines explained on the DVD but that is not what the DVD is about. I would not buy this DVD to get those tricks and I do not think Bob Kohler meant for it to be that way either. The tricks are a direct result of the business that Bill Goldman is in and not meant to be added to your stand up routine tomorrow. Now the good stuff. There is a good deal of practical business advice concerning the corporate market. A great deal of useful tips and ideas. There are ideas on getting the job, how to work a trade show booth, and Sales and Contracts. The question is . . . is it worth the $80 price tag? The question is tough. For some, who have no idea about this market, it could be a gold mine. For those that have been around the block once or twice it becomes a tougher call. Why? It goes back to the production values. Is there the proverbial, “this one thing is worth the price of the DVD”? Yes. There are a few suggestions that if used could make your money back easily. However, I just felt a little insulted by the quality of the product. Just because the information or tricks on the DVD are good does not give one license to make the product unprofessional. The information given by the product was very good. YellowJacket |

I enjoyed the dvd. It was a bit of a set up the camera and talk. The interviewees asked some good questions. He does show a typical "pitch" for a product and explains what the sponsors are looking for. His stories are interesting. He's had some good luck being in the right place at the right time. Good ideas for giveaways. A few clever tricks. $80.00 might be a tad high. If it gets your foot in the door for doing a corporate show it's paid for itself.

I agree...the pitch on the video was good - but IMO one of the very few highlights on this DVD. While I enjoyed Bill's numerous stories, I have to agree with Yellowjacket - the quality of this DVD is extremely poor and, at least to me, not worth the money.
Not only were the few tricks done not the best choice for a trade show setting, it was evident there wasn't any 'format' or script by Bill or the producers. I've heard a number of good things about Bill Goldman over the years but IMO this DVD's quality and content does not equal those opinions.

I admire the work of Bill Goldman that I have purchased and seen in the past, but this time, rather reluctantly, I must agree with Yellowjacket and Mr Muggle. There are good moments, but unfortunately, in my opinion, not enough to make it worth the rather hefty asking price of this DVD set. My biggest problem was summed up well by Yellowjacket when he observed that it "came across as “Hey, let’s just set up a camera and talk” project" when it could have been so much more.
Perhaps I'm missing something....? |

Does the advice on the DVDs stand up 11 years later or is it outdated?
