I was in Vegas a few months back and noticed an ad for Collin Foster's show at Westin. I didn't have enough time to check it out but his ad was fairly 'interesting.' He advertises himself as: 'Quicker Than the Eye' and 'the only magician to be banned from playing at Las Vegas casinos' and 'his hands are insured for $1mm each'. Anyway, he makes some over the top claims. Does anyone know him or has seen his show? What kind of tricks does he do and what's his real skill level?

I asked this question awhile back. Here's the link, but it didn't get much response.

I went to see his show at the Westin this summer. He nicely performed some standard effects that probably most card magicians would know (ambittious card-style), and he had a very pleasant and involving performing style. But this is probably more fun for laymen than for other magicians.

I talked with him after the show, and he said he just started doing the show at the Westin. Too bad if it has been closed down, as it was one of few pure close-up shows with cards that I could find in Vegas...

But perhaps he's still in the area? -- check this press release:

His advertising of The Man with the Million Hands is plagerized from Frank Garcia's publicity.

His being banned from casinos is not true I am sure as well.

I just saw Collin Foster's show today.

He is now at the Plaza Hotel in downtown Las Vegas. His show is "free" which means you pay about $8 for "one drink" and admission to the show. It's in the Comedy Zone showroom every day at 2pm and 4pm.

The Plaza Hotel sucks. It is old, smoky, and dingy. BUT Collin's show is actually something GOOD about the old Plaza Hotel!

Mr. Foster is immediately likable and connects very well with his audience. The show is all close-up magic, performed on a table and also broadcast onto video screens. He does some really great card flourishes, shuffles, and routines. He does a few very cool variations on the ambitious card, and some other very cool, very smoothly executed routines involving signed cards, alternate color cards, oil and water type effects, predictions, and more.

He also does a very cool fork bending routine. I don't know much about how these work so they were stunners. I can say that they were normal forks, and that they were bending and twisting under no cover right in front of everyone's eyes.

He even did a simple, very cool teach-a-trick which floored everyone, and then everyone was very excited to learn it.

Collin performed a very smooth, VERY well executed $100 to $1 bill switch, then followed it with Misled. This whole routine just absolutely floored everyone in the audience.

He also did "cardiographic" to close the show and I enjoyed his presentation of that one.

The whole show was very smooth and very entertaining. It was punctuated with great music and all the music happened right on cue and helped move the tricks along. They made very good use of multiple video cameras in order to show everything to everyone.

I'd really recommend this one. I think a lot of the material will be known by advanced magicians but it's definately an amazing and entertaining show. MUCH better than the last magician the Plaza had playing (Dirk Arthur).
