"Torn" is great! But "Ripped and Restored" by Yves Doumergue is less angly. Try them both with people all around and you'll see.
Like Bonnie Raitt said, "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old." Thanks for the concerts + recordings, Lowell, Richie, and Paul!

Yea, this one seems a little fishy. The only thing that really stands out is being able to show both sides of the card peices. Is that really that important for the spectator? Also, seems a bit pricey at $30.
My 2 cents. |

Since none of these can be done surrounded, what I was referring to was that there is a wider "angle of invisibility" with "Ripped". "...people all around" meant "more than a couple of people watching, at an angle other than straight on." Steve H

This is my way overdue condensed review of Daniel Garcia's Torn. I just want to say that I have held off on this just because I had other torn and restored effects that I liked and just didn't want another one. I recently got Fraud and have been blowing people's minds with that gem. I watched the demo of Torn the other day and decided it was time to add it to my collection. All I can say is what the f*&% have I been waiting for!?!? This is, as all Daniel Garcia's effects, a beautiful piece of magic. The handling is very natural and the effect is in your face and its so freaking visual! The teaching on the DVD and all the point of view camera angles and the slo mo feature is almost as awesome as the effect itself! How many times have you watched a magic dvd and just wished they had a magicians point of view angle or just wish you could see it slower without messing with your remote...well you can do that with this well made DVD.
In closing...if you are like me, and have waited for some ridiculous reason to buy Torn, go right now to your favorite magic website and buy the *** thing NOW! Thanks Daniel Garcia and keep it up!! Cant wait to see your new wallet. I will be getting that, as well as all your new effects right when they hit the web. (Just ordered Kaos) Marc ps. I already got up to speed and purchased all the older DG dvds (I wish they would hurry up and get DG Project to me asap!...damn the mail is slow!!..course I ordered it last night!!!) |

This is a very good effect. Unfortunately, it's too angly for me.

Anything Daniel touches looks amazing. I have enjoyed all of his products, I can't wait to get his new wallet effect.

I never like to see the BACK of the card only for TORN. And the restoration in TORN diminishes in quality. it starts from the most impressive restoration and end with the restoration that we dun even see the card that is meant to be restored. Reformation is still the best.

I've had the idea of forcing the card and using the that to show the face while restoring it using Daniel Garcia’s (no relation) Torn. All you have to remember is that you would want to force a card that can be pieced back together without worrying about inconsistency in the restoration.
For example, any deuce thru ten of diamonds would be ideal. The diamond is perfectly symmetrical, so when you restore it, you won’t have to worry about a double top or bottom like the other suits would possibly do. The four is best if you’re worried about lining up the suits on the face just right. I haven’t purchased the DVD, but I have an understanding on the handling. I wasn’t keen on showing the back of the card for the entire restoration as well, so I thought of this. I’ve tried this on my own using a video camera to record me and it looks great. My two cents.

I like Torn, but it took quite a bit of practice to look good. It's also a bit angle sensitive, so I really only do it when performing for just a couple people. Heinstein's dream is probably better if you're looking for a torn and restored card routine to do in a walk around or restaurant environment.
basically, torn looks better, but heinstein's dream is more practical. |

After watching Daniel do it several times in a room full of magicians, I am convinced it can be done for more than a few specs. Not saying I am there yet, but it is so spectacular that I am committed to continuing my practice- it is a great piece of magic!
Also known, when doing rope magic, as "Cordini"

Is Torn a close up or a stand up effect? I think in close up situation you can see whats going on, especially in the first restoration
