I got some sort of crud got on my '64 Sh**l and my 4 other matching '64 Kennedys. To clean them, I washed them with tap water and dishwashing liquid. Now two of the coins will not smoothly fall out of the Sh**l. The coins tend to stick slightly and I need to jar them loose to get them out. The other two coins still work perfectly. Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?
Thanks! |

I was at Johnson Products shop on Wednesday. Laurie said that if you have any problems with their products you should send them back and they'll correct it. So, if your s***l is from Johnson, call them at (626) 445-1411 or fax them at (626) 445-4325, send them the s***l and the four halves, and they'll correct the problem.
If your s***l is from someone else, they may have a similar policy. Contact them and see. Some people here have suggested putting a silk between the half and the s***l and seeing if that restores the proper shape. I've never tried it, but you might. |

Assemble the following:
Half dollar S***l Silk Mallet or hammer ;) Actually, I suspect that you simply cover the half with the silk, then put the s***l on that; it should be really snug. Pop the s***l off (I'd imagine that stretching the silk will help in this operation), then try it without the silk. |

Yes, just place the Sh**l on one side of the silk & the half dollar on the other - fit the two together so that it looks like the half dollar is "stuck" in the silk. The fit should feel very snug. Grab the ends of the silk on both sides of the coin and pull - the sh**l should pop right off. I did this a few times until the sh**l fit the half perfectly. Worked like a charm!

I've had one get stuck on a coin and the heat from just one match was the right amount to expand it enough to cause the coin to fall out.

If you need to expand your ] put an english penny in it. English pennies are a little bigger and you won't be able to fit the whole thing inside, but if you just push it in a bit, it will loosen the ] perfectly. This is the method that David Roth suggests, and I used it the other day.
