Hi,
I was wonderng if any fello pyros know where to get the items needed to produce a flash with your fingers in a snapping action. It is used by Lubor Fiedler in his DVD "collected Secrets of"". It looks like two different chemicals that are placed in tow different fingers and when snapped a flash occurs along with a puff of smoke. Any info would be greatly appreciated. -Thanks in advance |

The Café rules prohibit mentioning the chemicals, rightfully... I can tell you they ar dangerous of themselves as well as being directly dangerous to your skin. Expect long term discoloration of your skin...

If you use too much of the stuff or snap too hard, you can kinda burn your fingers. And trust me, its hard to gauge the right amount and correct strength for snapping
Even if you get the correct effect, the flash and smoke, you do feel a stinging sensation on your finger tips. I decided to stick with flash paper as its more predictable cheerios

Send me a PM if you are still looking for this stuff. I think that have a small quantity of it from a buy out of a magic shop that was going out of business that I made a few years ago. I think that the actual name of the product is called Snap Bang or Snap Flash. It is packaged in two separate containers and still can be found from time to time as brick and mortar magic shops that work with different stage effects companies.
I will add on that if you do not use caution with this stuff that you can hurt yourself. I tried it once and used far to much of the chemical and lost the feeling in the tips of my fingers for several days and had a very nice second degree burn to go along with the tingling. I will not ship this stuff out but if you want it I can get you the actual name of the product so that you can find it. KG

I was talking to a very experienced magician friend of mine about that stuff some years ago, and he showed me his thumb with a big scar in the middle of his thumbprint where an extra bit of that stuff just sat and burned a nice little hole in his thumb. He emphasized that it was a prettty hopeless feeling to stand there looking at it burning and being unable to get it off his thumb....
Needless to say, he didn't use the stuff again, and he suggested that I stay away from it too. And I definitely took his advice. I have too many safer ways to produce flashes and fire to need something that dangerous. BroDavid

I do not know if it is still sold at LaRock's in Charlotte NC but that is where I got mine a few years ago. Read my thread in this section for using it with flash paper and avoiding a lot of the burns, discoloration, and scars as the paper gives a measure of insulation from the chemicals. But be cautious, you can still get burned if not careful.

It was intended for professional use only because of the hazard. Still must be a source somewhere. It is basically 2 chemicals that when combined cause a minor explosion.

You are treading on very dangerous ground! I once worked out just the cost of equipment to make "cheap" flash paper and it comes to about $650.00. That does not include the cost of having HAZMAT come to your house to get rid of the residue... Factor in the personal hazard to health, and the inferior quality of the result...
Snap flash chemicals require permits to get the chemicals, as well as the scrutiny of the DOD and other agencies. A lot to pay for a chance to burn your fingers! Slim

STAY AWAY FROM THIS STUFF!!!
A magician named Joe Raven lost some fingers to this stuff. I had some, when I realized what the chemicals were, I poured them out. This is definitely not worth playing with. There are old pyros And there are bold pyros But there aren’t any old, bold pyros.

You WILL burn your self. I used it twice, then after a really bad burn, never again. Its not even that reliable.

Sounds like dangerous stuff, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's really tough to get a hold of.
Oh and flash paper/flash cotton? As I posted elsewhere, flash cotton is also known as gun cotton, and was used in the 1800's as charge packing for cannons. Not only is it suicidal to manufacture, it's dangerous to store in large quantities. Actually, they stopped storing it in metal lockboxes shortly after it was discovered just how much damage can be done by a large chunk of exploding lockbox- at terminal velocity. Don't mess with the stuff, leave its manufacture to the pros.
