We have more or else come to acknowledge that De'vo, Brian Tudor, Buck Twins, Jeff McBride, Flourishman among others to be teachers of essential flourish/manipulation related material.

Now, lately, we have seen teaser videos of **** attempts by flourish-tutor-wannabe's (won't name anyone).

First of all, they are just not as good as the ones I mentioned above.

Secondly, they hardly offer us anything new.

Third, it's obvious they are out to make a quick buck as public (?) interest in flourishing escalates.

My question is: What do these people really hope to contribute to the magic community?

They want to contribute their names. That's all. They want "credit" for some "original" things.

Everybody has to start somewhere.

I think you are being rather harsh 30210162. People have something they want to show to people, they need to charge for the materials and labor for making it, plus alittle extra for themselves. If you do not want to buy it, don't, but don't **** about it either, got it?

No offense dude, but seriously, what kind of question is that?

You did not name one person who has a DVD for under $50. I’m putting that out there generically, some may have one or two with less content for $30, but lets face it to learn something you have to spend $50.

No questions asked, if some guy in a clown suit who calls himself “Pimpy the Clown” put out a decent DVD with a good amount of content taught correctly for $20, I’d buy it. If it’s not originally, then you have the crediting issue… And yes it would have to be taught correctly even if pimpy the clown couldn’t perform like Devo or Jerry.

Spending $50 on one DVD is just too high for a lot of people who are here as hobbyists.

I’m still waiting for Keppel’s two for $50 deal, spending $25 on a DVD is reasonable.

Ohh.. And Welcome to the Boards.

Most flourishes are just variartions of OTHER flourishes. There are only so many flourishes one can think up. Just because someone comes out with a DVD that isn't 10% original material (which most of the ones you mentioned didn't') doesn't make them bad, nor does it mean you can't buy it.

I refuse to pay $50 for a DVD with 7-8 flourishes when I can spend $50 and get almost 40 quality tricks and other things. Cut them a break, they're just trying to get their name out there.

Adam

And yes, welcome Smile

I have seen many different flourishes that capitalises on the original sybil, cuts, etc. However, these are basics and are meant to make people use these to explore and add on to them, creating original stuff. isn't that what the masters want? they give us the basics and we learn to create. isn't that what xtreme beginners by de'vo (to applease the De'vo supporters) is out to do? give the beginners moves and let them build on them

For me, I am jus another dumb guy who can only do stuff taught in DVDs. I jus don have the creativity required which many out there have. They add new twists and turns to the original stuff and it becomes more beautiful

I salute those guys who are able to do that and since I lack the creativity, I am willing to learn from them by paying if its good stuff.

Man brickster, you nailed it. that's the exact way I look at it. If you don't like it, don't buy it, but don't cry about it either just to bash so your posts can go up. Im sure none of these "Newbies Wannabees" will miss any sleep over a sell. Shoot I have a buddy that has some killer killer stuff. I tried to get him to make a dvd with a company I know and he just wont do it. He doesn't want his stuff out there and he doesn't care about his name getting huge. He just wants to be able to bust out fat shiznit. Which he has a lot of nice work. He has a fat job and knows that his job will make him way more money then magic ever will. Sure he could make a dvd and most likely become a pretty big name but he doesn't care. As for anyone saying these guys have nothing to offer, please. If its nothing to offer to you then don't buy it. Its wonders to people who want to learn some more material and get that dvd of the new guy. Frankly, I think some of these new guys have great dvd's. They have to try harder to put out good stuff because its there first dvd. don't get me wrong, I am for sure not saying ALL the new ones because I too have seen some crappy quick money attempts at making a product. Its like a low budget movie. If these guys put out a crap movie for there first one then most likely they will never make it in the movie world. So they try a little harder to make it all they can be. You would be suprised but some of the people with some of the most killer effects you may ever see are nobodys. Your nobody till somebody kills you. Opps I mean untill you make a good trick up. Haha

Sellout. What, I'm no sellout. Geez people these days. All this talk about flourish dvds makes me wanna make a new one for everyone to pick up, even the haters. Come on what is 30 bucks. It may be a lot for some but the people that have $ to burn will pick it up.

30210162, it's not about contributing. It's all about the Benjamins Baby. Nah, just jokin. If you really look hard, you can answer your own question.
"What do these people really hope to contribute to the magic community?"

Answer, new material for everyone to look at or even learn and if it's rehashed, remade, or whatever you wanna call it, it's something new from someone else. Don't hate.
