I received the HandzUp last week.
Contrary to ads saying it has veins, or so realistic it could fool a doctor, it does not! It is beige, has no veins, and would fool no one with normal eye-sight. I am ready to try the Third Hand, but don't want to make the same mistake twice. How is the colour on this one? Thanks, Tod

I think you're looking at it too close and in a way that your audience will never look at it . (if you handle it correctly they are never aware that it is there .) Veins ? Who cares ? Do you have visible veins standing out on your fingers ? The audience only sees the fingertips of the gimmick gripping the top of a cloth, jacket or a newspaper , etc. You don't show them the back of the hand. That part is only there in case you accidently flash it as you are raising or lowering the cloth , but then it is only seen in motion and no one is able to scrutinize it for lack of veins or hairs , etc. Yoshino's may have the edge over Hottrix version since Yoshino's has individual fingers , with space between each finger , rather than molded as one piece . The Yoshino's fingers are a bit smaller than mine, so it doesn't work for me. Handz Up works for me . You should see some of the old-style "daylight seance hands" that used to be sold by places like Abbott's. They were ten times LESS realistic than Handz Up or Yoshino Third Hand and yet they worked . (on stage; they're not intended as close up effects , no matter what the dealer hype at Hottrix says . If you're disappointed with what Hottrix built you up for then write to them asking for a refund. First rule of buying magic : Don't believe the Dealer-Speak in the ads. "So realistic it would fool a doctor" ...... no, but then you're not trying to pass it off for a medical exam. It's a stage magic prop. ) All of these types of gimmicks are improved by using the same foundation make-up on your hands and face on the gimmick too . Lighting helps. A nice amber gel evens out the skin tones. That said, I will also point out that I have used the Handz Up in a "parlor" type of performance , with only 5 or 6 feet between my performing area and the audience. But don't expect to use it for "street magic" or close up . If you need something that is hyper-realistic for close up then you're going to have to step up to having it custom-made by someone like Tom Naughton . http://www.nimbacreations.com/toms/default.htm |

David,
Actually, the Vernet TT is much closer to a skins real colour, and it is only $3.95! Given the product receieved, what you say is "dealer-hype," I consider dealer-misrepresentation. We're not talking even in the ballpark here as far as realism goes. The 40 year old hearing-aid of an elderly person comes much closer in colour. You mention make-up though. Seems to me this would come off on the clothes and such durring performances? Or are you refering to a more permanent version? Also, what is the amber gel you are refering to? Much thanks for the advice, Tod

Hi Tod:
I don't have either of the items you mentioned, but can tell you what I did. I bought a standard Sceance Cloth and hand (latex rubber). The hand looked okay, but there certainly was a difference between my real hand and the fake when they were both holding the rod at the top. So, I contacted a local theatrical make-up artist...a guy who specialized in horror stuff - masks, etc. I had him do my hand, and it was perfect. You would have a real hard time telling the difference between it and my real hand. I think this situation is different from the TT because it's in view longer and more openly. So, I think a better match is more important. This may not be what you're looking for, but it was a nice solution for me. Ron |

You use the Handz up at a distance it is not made for close up. It also needs to be moving. Spectators don't stare at your hands when used properly. It is a fooler.
