Well, I'm sure I'm re-inventing the wheel here,
but this is the idea:

A spectator picks any card from the deck and then returns it to the top. The card is cut to the middle and the deck is put into the spec's hands. After some "magical" patter the spec. goes through the deck to find their card reversed.

Basically I'm trying to think of some good patter to distract from the one move that this uses. It only needs about 1-2 seconds of distraction before the deck is handed to them but I can't think of anything that doesn't sound completely cheesy. Any ideas?

Have them think of a magic word they could use to make the magic happen. Or say, can I trust you with this deck? Because it means a lot to me.

If you're using the same method I think you are, here's the way I demonstrate it to people.

Card is selected, shown to everyone except magician. Card is returned to deck and deck is placed into box minus one card, which will represent a magic wand. Box is handed to spectator for safe keeping. The card is waved over the box, caused to vanish (sometimes) and then the spec removes the deck and finds their card reversed.

Hopefully that makes sense, if not, PM me and I'll explain it more clearly.

there's a simpler method that uses no moves.. where you and the spectator pick out a card...

Geoff,

Are you refering to Rosini's Double Reverse? If so, I agree, it is easier, and more magical. I'm not sure where the original is, but I read it in one of the Eugene Burger books.

BTW, the one I described in my above post is one that many laymen already know, and I usually teach this trick to people afterwards. Leaves them with something to show their friends, and the presentation and technique I show them helps to fool even some that already know it.

I forget the name of it... It goes like this.. you give them half the deck, and then you each pick a card out of your half and insert it face down into the others half... then they turn their half face up, and put half above your cards and half below your cards... Turn the entire deck over and ribbon spread, and every card is now face down except for the two selected cards.

Yep. That's the Rosini Double Reverse. It is an excellent routine, it's nice to have a self-working trick to throw into an act every here and there, just to throw off the masses a little...
