Here's my Promotional Video (see link below)
I asked the guy who filmed me to make it about 3 minutes long, but when he showed me the DVD it was a total of 11 minutes. I took it home and redid it, and found that I could make it 2 minutes, and include everything I wanted. The way I found the camera man was by posting a request on the local film school web site bulletin board. I got the idea from this forum. An excellent idea, and very affordable. It was actually one of the teachers who did the whole thing. But just because they have a lot of experience does not mean that they know how to make the perfect demo. He gave me the edited down files so I was able to do the rest in Windows Movie Maker. I'm still very happy, as I got this done for the cost of hiring the equipment for a weekend. A special thanks to Ken Winters for some excellent advice. Here's the link to view my video: http://211.29.132.18/tom1974/Promotional%20Video_0002.wmv |

Tom,
Great video overall! It shows a lot of the visual elements you can provide a client, which is excellent. I know what you mean about the film dept. not being able to convey an idea. Many are great at the technical side, but their storytelling skills need honing (which is what they are doing in school, so this isn't too much a problem). The only thing I could think to add would be some client testimonial in the form of graphic overlays (I'm thinking along the old Batman tv show) and audio (ie. from a video clip of a spectator remarking about you, but just use the audio). Also, the video sort of just ends. It just leaves me. You might want to try and end on a visually striking image of you. Maybe that shot of you pushing the VW bug but done in slow motion, and then the car moves to reveal your name, phone number and web site as a graphic behind it. Just a thought. But I'd really like to see an image of YOU as the last thing, not some kid getting up from the audience and leaving! Great job! Warm regards, Scott |

Nice video, I must say that I have never seen a promotional video shot outdoors before! It comes across very well.
The only advice I can offer is that it might benefit from a voice-over, probably you, explaining a little about what you do, what sort of functions you can cater for, or even how you started in the business. (Keep the music though.) This might give the video a more personal touch, giving potential bookers more of an impression that they know you a bit better. ... Just a thought - I'm no expert in these things!!! |

Great video - streams quickly - should do wonders for you.
As you run it thru the editing software again (and you should for the occasional tuneup) - why does it look like you're scratching your crotch at about 15 seconds in? Suggest inserting more clips of SMILING LAUGHING AUDIENCE FACES - great bits shown, you might want to come back to one of yr favorites at intervals throughout (chased by the Chinese dragon maybe?) - my biggest suggestion: get those happy faces in there. Good work and a great selling tool! |

I like the idea of what you tried to do, but I only see a man in costume, I don't see a 'clown'.
If you want to discuss it, please feel free to PM me. Dave

Very good as it is...to make it great I would add a voice over and as said add a high spot to end on.

Also a little tip in editing to music, make sure you keep a constant rhythm with the music in fading to the next shot. It will just look and have a better feel.
