Do a search as it has been talked about recently.
A pass or shift of cards from one place in the deck to another, hopefully done undetected!

To do that, you'll need to invest in a book or video that teaches the move. Several lists of resources have been posted recently. I can't tell you one, because I don't use any kind of pass.
I need a stage name.

I don't know if you are a beginner or more advanced , but the pass is know as a very hard slight to master. You can find it in the Royal Road To Card Magic, and you will also learn many other cool stuff, in this good and inexpensive book.

Hello:
The term "Pass" is used in two ways magically. When applied to cards it means the transposition of TWO halves of the deck. When applied to coins or virtually anything else it denotes a false transfer of the item from one hand to the other thus producing the illusion that the item vanished. This is a helpful distinction for beginners to get down. The Classic Pass which you need to have down perfectly before even thinking of adding the riffle is taught in many places. Be warned that although it IS a wonderful sleight and well worth the time to learn it does take considerable time, effort and thought to nail it down. I learned it from two different books 35 years ago and it took me about a year and a half to get it down. Once you HAVE the Classic Pass mastered you can take a look at the adding a front or rear riffle to the ACTION of the Pass. When done correctly the riffle makes the pass itself impossible to detect and can be used for not only making an invisible pass, but to produce Color Change effects, etc. as well. Best,
Brad Burt

I found a good DVD resource on the pass is Richard Kaufman's On The Pass. It covers many different types of passes, including the Riffle Pass.
Learning how to do it is one thing, but properly executing it is something that has taken people years to get down.

I learned the basics of passes from Royal Road to Card magic. If you are new to magic I completely recomend getting this. It is a great resorce and teaches beginners and profesionals techniques that can be applied to so many things. If you need visual reference you could try Born to Perform. There has to be hundreds of other videos out there, but this is the only one I have that teaches it. It also has some other good material for less advanced magicians.
Stick to the classics,

Honestly, I did well over 10,000 passes before I could properly execute it consistantly. It is easily the hardest slight I learned but I am so glad I learned it. I bought "On the Pass" by Richard Kaufman that taught me the PASS as well as many variations of it. You will never properly learn this unless you have a mentor, or a comprehensive video like the one mentioned. Don't let the difficulty scare you..I can do 12-15 passes a minute so once you learn the mechanics, practice is the only thing left!

Is that the same as the riffle force?

And also, no, its not the riffle force. If you know what the classic pass is the riffle pass is a version of that were the cards are riffled down. I think Lee Asher has a version...
Stick to the classics,

I really suck at the classic pass. I always seem to peel the card below the break with my left pinky off of that pack and to the bottom. and I have bent to many cards practicing it as well lol

Trust me on this...Brad Burt has an incredible video on the subject and although his teaching style may not appeal to some, you'll undoubtedly get a lot out of the video.
You can't go wrong and if I remember correctly Brad offers money back if not satisfied (check with him on that as I may be wrong.) The pass is a wonderful sleight to work on and you get a great sense of accomplishment once you "get" it. Be warned, however, I do a great pass but very, very seldom ever use it. There are usually over a dozen other ways which are always more simple to get the same result. Good luck. |
