A long time ago, I think in "World's Greatest Magic", a man did a trick I've not seen anywhere else.
He was a mature man, thin, if I remember correctly, and he had a Latin or Spanish accent. He made an ace-production, repeating the effect after the first time. He said, as he displayed the aces "it can't be done any slower than this", and repeated the phrase. I'd like to know if any of you guys know who this person was, and which was the effect he performed. I'm sorry I can't give any more details, but this was a long time ago. I don't know if they were just a couple of DLs, but it sure stayed in my mind. So strongly that after all these years, I'm trying to find the information here. Thanks in advance. P.S. I'm sorry if there are any mis-spellings, English is not my first language. |

I know exactly what you are talking about. It was an oil and water type thing. But that wasn't the part that got me, it was the fact that the man had gotten into a car accident and only had the use of one arm, but through it all he still performs magic. That truly shows that nothing is impossible.

Do you remember the magician's name or the name of the trick? |

Doesn't Rene Levand only have use of one arm?
The only stupid question is the one not asked.

Rene' Levand is the person you're talking about. Wonderful magician and an inspirational man. In his case the magic is not in the method, it's in the man.

Yes... This man is amazing! After seeing him, I quit whining that my hands were too small to do palming! If you watch him do the trick about a thousand times, you can put it all together and figure it out. The hard part would be to adapt it to having 2 hands, Rene does it so eloquently with one, it seems a shame to adapt it to 2!

I really thank your posts. I have years wondering who this man is and what is the name of the trick. Yes, it's René Lavand, and yes, it is "Oil & Water" ("I can't go any slower"). I really thank your help.
By any chance any of you know if there's a video on some web site? (of the Lavand's Oil&Water, since I tried to look up and there's a thousand "Oil&Water"s out there. Thank you again. |

Man oh man. That was the first "oil and water" trick I ever witnessed. And it is quite frankly one of the most magical moments I have ever experienced.
John Smetana couldn't have said it better. It is not the method--it is him and him alone. The man is a living lesson in presentational beauty. |

I have shown this clip to my friends and family so much, they tell me not to do it any slower.
What a great performance he gave on that show!

I watched Rene' do "I can't go any slower" on WGM II and I was stunned. It was one of those wonderful magical moments. Unfortunately, I hadn't taped the show.
I was searching the web yesterday and ran across a site that said WGM II was going to be aired on The Family Channel on Oct 26th from 4 to 6 pm (EST???) I'm definitely going to check my listings that week to confirm and get my VCR set up. I think his routine is also included in the book about Rene' called "Mysteries of My Life", available from Richard Kaufman and a number of other dealers. You may want to check the book description at Richard's site to confirm this as I just ordered the book yesterday and don't have it in my hands to make sure the routine is really there. - Britt

Lavand's "I Can't Do It Any Slower" is described in detail in his WONDERFUL book, "Magic From the Soul," published by Michael Caveney's Magical Publications.
It's absolutely the most poetic magic book I've ever read, and has fabulous moves and routines. Lavand reminds the reader:"All of these routines can also be done with TWO hands!"

Rafa I saw Meir Yedid at Tannen's convention and he is releasing a dvd set from Mr. Levand. I checked his web site and the routine you want is on volume one.

Oblique is correct...I edited the Levand DVD for Meir. All the "work" is explained on this.

Rene Lavand's "It can't be done any slower" is explained in Spanish in his videos "Mano a mano con Usted". In English it is published in pp. 68-79 of "The mysteries of my life", and as you were told in vol. 1 of his latest DVDs/VHS "Magic Artistry"
